Well. Unfortunately I have very limited experience editing and recording, because I have some really good equipment for guitar and bass.

Since it's a bunch of separate songs I don't see the issue with different production values for each song
My gear is pretty shitty but I still managed to sound relatively decent in the few recordings I did.
I was hoping we could get someone with mixing experience to help us out
But then again we're talking about taking a poop in a toilet we haven't built yet

I have good gear, so I can record things good.

I'm just not an amazing guitar player. Though if people send me decent quality clean DI stems I can mix them.

Don't worry: I haven't picked up my guitar in roughly a month, maybe more. Back when I was in highschool I only played every 2/3 months. Doesn't matter, not to me at least

I'm a solid rhythm player, just can't play sweeps or anything like that. My legato is okay though.

Don't get much time to practise at Uni. I tend to play more bass here for the band I'm in.

Why don't we have one person that does all (or most) of the recordings? Then other people can make their own recordings of the odd solo or whatever. Whoever mixes can just use whichever recording works best.

But I agree, pooping in a toilet that isn't there. We don't really need to worry about this at the moment.

Im going to say that I feel its time to distribute ourselves at least in couples or trios, by instrumentation and possibilities. Lets check how many people can play bass and drums or at least programming them and make the "bands"

Well I can play bass, guitar (can record both with good quality, I don't spend all my time in the recording forum for nothing!) and can program drums with high quality samples.

I am not however a super technical player, as I focus my musical energies more on song writing than I do on being a super amazing shredder.

I'm a semi-.good composer and I can play solidly rhythm guitar on most extreme genres, but I also enjoy stoner and other stuff. I can track guitars with Eleven rack and send'em to anyone to mix.

I have Fruity Loops (lol) so I can maybe work out any synth tracks, but don't expect me to mix anything with it. I can't really record actual instrumets now but with just 1 decent guitar, a Blackstar HT-5, a Boss SD-1 and a Big Muff Pi... I really need to go shopping. I'm perfectly happy writing for all instruments including drums though so if there's an easy way of programming drums from MIDI... I'm quite happy with my compositional abilities.

EDIT: I wrote some more:

I've got good enough equipment to record and compose my own material (Pro Tools and hopefully Komplete 9 soon), but I'll struggle with another persons song cuz I wouldn't know how they'd want it to sound.

That can be covered when we actually get around to recording.

We really need to focus more on pairing people up based on genres and less on if they can record or not.

Once we have all the songs written we can worry about how we get them recorded.

So I feel like I've put something on here, here is the intro to a Melodic Death Metal song... though honestly it came out a little bit too much like metalcore.

I play a lot of stuff, but my comfort zone is Metal. Specifically, New School Death (Lamb of God being my go to example/playing style, don't how to classify them other than this), Prog/Djent, Groove, some Nu-Metal(Old Papa Roach-ish) some thrash, and some Melodeath.

I am a fairly solid rhythm player, IMO, but I suck at leads most of the time.

I have also been dabbling with Sublime style Ska, but I'm not sure I would be comfortable trying to write any of it.

I was thinking of just getting people with similar tastes/songwriting styles together or just go full blown crazy and mix people that have anything in common.
Who wants to collab with me btw? (inb4 noone because I suck)

That's something for later but I think that won't be too much of a hassle really, at least I hope. It's kind of a dick move to bug someone that's doing the favor of mixing/mastering your song: if all the instruments are clear enough I'd say that's good enough, at least for me

Sounds like a more metalcore-ish Hipocrisy riff, not as epic tho. Needs a choir behind it and faster double bass.

Does this mean you're gonna collab or not?
