NGD + a "stupid me" story: Got myself (another) Ibanez AX7221

And even worse, it looks exactly like the one I already got.

Meet the twins (#1 right, #2 left):

So I actually have a reason for buying a second one and basically my story goes like this:

I recently won a DiMarzio Blaze 7 on eBay for super cheap. The problem was that the spacing for the screw mounts was wider than the stock pickups. I tried installing the new pickup, ended up drilling a new hole to help set the pickup in right, and ended up drilling through the body. OK, fine, whatever. Tried screwing in the new pickup with the screws I got with it and ended up cranking in too deep and cracked through the back of the body. The other side of the pickup cracked through the body also. FML.

So now I've decided that my summer project (assuming I have the time, money, and ability to see it through) will be to redo the body on the first AX7221 I already have and keep working with the second one I just got. I guess I'm kind of trying to redeem myself with refinishing the body on #1 but also make it unique compared to #2.

Congrats! Nothing wrong with having 2 or 3 or 4 of the same thing.

Okay I'm going to be brutally honest..

Painting a guitar and having it come out looking good takes as much skill and practice as learning to play the damn things, maybe more, and the skill level required is a lot higher than installing a pickup which seems to have not gone so well.

Happy new guitar day and remember guitars are just tools to make music. I'm sure you've seen pictures of Eddie Van Halen's guitar. What a piece of crap.. Enjoy your guitars, both of them.

Not sure yet at all. It will probably something I don't decide on until I get to the point where I get to do it.

Also, I'm 100% into this. I know the woodworking will be a hefty task but I'm not really scared, I know people who do this kind of thing. I was just so upset that I messed up the body myself I just feel the need to make it right by fixing it up.
