You've learned the pentatonic scale. Great. If you play it in a minor key, it's minor. If you play it in a major key, it's major. Do you know about relative major and minor scales?

Oh, no. I'm talking about a concept.

The major scale is made up of seven notes, and the harmony (chords, basically) built from it are all in a major key.

The minor scale is also made up of seven notes, and it's relationship to the major scale is that it starts on the sixth note of the major scale. The harmony built from it is the minor key.

In the C major scale, the notes are C D E F G A B.

Counting up six notes, we come to A. So the notes in A minor are A B C D E F G.

So C major and A minor are relative scales. C major is the relative major of A minor and vice versa.

EDIT FOR MORE INFO:

So, if your playing those 7 notes, the scale you are using depends on what key you are in. If I play A B C E F C D E in the key of C major, I'm playing in the C major scale. But, if I play those same notes in the key of A minor, then I'm playing in the A minor scale. It all depends on the harmony (chords) behind them.
