Hughes and Kettner Statesman???

Ive been looking at these amps for a while now and played the head version instore and they look and sound amazing, does anyone know why have they have been discontinued???
So my 2 questions are

1) Do i get the head and cab (dual el34) or the combo (dual 6l6)?
2) Also if anyone knows where i can pick up the Statesman 212 Cabinet you would be my hero

Thanks guys

What's your budget? Are you playing at home or gigging? Are there any bands in particular you want to sound like?

I'm tempted to say get an AC15 or AC30 but more info! Or you could disregard this post, just open if you want us to suggest you an alternative.

If you want good cleans go for the dual 6L6. If you are after more of a crunch and cleans don't have to be pristine then the EL84. EL84's breaking up is a good blues sound and they'll do it at a lot lower volume than the 6L6's will. Of course that is a problem if you want pure cleans for say, jazz.
Now I haven't played those particular amps but that's the difference in terms of the tubes and it should stand true, all things being equal.

@Volsz Budget is about 800 pounds, but if its possible to go under thatd be great, and gigging but home use as well, and not really, my band plays originals and im not after a copycat tone, id rather build my own. I did look at AC15/30, but the 15 didnt have an effects loop and not enough headroom, and the 30 is too cumbersome! Im reasonably set on a statesman series amp its just which one, after trying out/researching about 20 amps they were my favourites!

@Cathbard Thanks thats really helpful! Would the 6l6's get a decent crunch sound on low gain settings on a drive channel or is that being too broad given amp specifics such as circuitry and things like that?

There are two basic types of distortion, preamp and power amp. To get distortion at low volumes you have to turn up the gain control (it's full name is "preamp gain") and get your distortion from the preamp.
To get power amp distortion requires you to turn up the volume.
Generally speaking, to get two 6L6's to distort you have to be playing at loud drummer volumes at least. Sometimes you will have to be louder than the drummer ie the drums have to be miked up. You should be able to get decent cleans out of a 6L6 amp and still hear yourself over the drums, just.
A 2xEL84 amp will start to distort if you want to be able to hear yourself platying so you need to mike it up and put some back through the monitors if you want pure cleans.
It's not just about the power either, EL84's break up easier.
