500T sounds awesome. It does also sound identical to a Seymour Duncan Distortion, so if you want more options (color or cover) you could go with that too.

I have two gibsons with 500t, and two with dirty fingers. Both pickups are awesome and have served me well.

I would never buy a gibson pickup new, but if i hear of somebody doing a pickup swap i always try to get them off of them for cheap.

500t's ftw

So after hearing comments and doing a little research of my own I'm thinking of putting a duncan distortion sh-6 in the bridge and a sh-2 jazz in the neck... ????

I have typically like the sd '59 for neck than the jazz, just a personal preference. They are different, but definitely look at both.

should work fine. the jazz is pretty warm and the distortion pretty bright, as trashedlostfdup says, the '59 might work better. that being said, i have a guitar with the distortion/jazz combo and it's fine (IMO).

+1 neither are bad, its just a matter of taste.

i have owned guitars with both combinations (both super strats), and just preferred the '59.

i like darker tone in general for leads 99% of the time it i play leads on the neck pickup and it felt more smooth to me. but i sold both of guitars a while ago.

you would like either combination.

but i still wouldn't write off a 500t, go demo an explorer or (Gibson ) they are mostly 496r and 500t, at least you could play with one.

I did not read all the post, but I dumped my Burst bucker Pros for Seymour Duncans. I have a Sh-1 in the neck and Sh-12 in the Bridge. It is all opinion. I really like EMG's, but in my Gibson I went with SD. I have heard great things about 500/498 and 57's, so it kind of depends on what you are aiming for with your rig and your taste.

Good Luck!

yeah the jazz is smoother while the '59 is edgier. it just depends on what you want.
