I'll leave it open for a bit to see what some of the other members think. If no one cares, I'll just make an executive decision.

Slate's list is probably more accurate than mine, as he knows his stuff better than myself.

I should've said something about this earlier.

But yes, so much yes. That album is easily one of the best of the year, if not the best outright. The sheer quality of the songwriting and riffs and everything else is insane.

AND, they're coming to my town!!!!

The new list is up. Thanks to all who contributed. I will be updating it with new albums as they come, and I will probably rearrange some of the albums too as I see fit; so don't stop contributing to the thread if you find an album you want on the list.

Here's one of my favorite beers for you UG:

Antichrist's Burned Beyond Recognition was neat, too. But it was like two new songs, so maybe not worth a mention.

http://electricassaultrecords.com/

Was pretty snazzy though.

Unless I brushed over it, has really no one mentioned Dark Tranquillity's album Construct??

That, and call me poppy, but I dig The Nexus from Amaranthe. I enjoy the blend of sounds.

I just came across this band, Temple of Void, and their debut demo this morning as well. One of the best doom releases I've heard this year!

I'm not the only one who heavily enjoyed Black Sabbath - 13, right? Also The Last Spire was pretty good.

My favourite metal albums this year (that haven't been mentioned yet)

Batillus - Concrete Sustain

Doom Metal band with industrial influence, mainly on the vocals, incredibly crushing... like concrete xD

Hateform - Sanctuary in Abyss

Incredibly unforgiving Melodic Death Metal done right, at least I think so.

Leperous - Coal

Bordering on not metal... but awesome progressive music none the less.

Shining - OneOneOne

Again arguably "not metal" but it's certainly unique.

Sulphur Aeon - Swallowed by the Ocean's Tide

The world needs more albums about Cthluhu... well it needs more GOOD ones... like this.

Really like the new October Tide too, but I've not listened to it enough to say if it's really great or not.

The power metal list is looking kinda sad so here's some of my picks:

Avalon - The Land of New Hope
Avantasia -The Mystery of Time
Cellador - Honor Forth (EP)
Dark Moor - Ars Musica
Derdian - Limbo
Enceladus - Time in a Dream (EP)
Enforcer - Death by Fire (might fit under heavy metal)
Gamma Ray - Master of Confusion (EP)
Helloween - Straight Out of Hell
Hero for the World, A - s/t
Majesty - Thunder Rider
Mistress - Heavy Mental
Powerwolf - Preachers of the Night
Pretty Maids - Motherland

Jesus H. Christ, this thread is gold. Thanks for the great posts guys, it's immensely valuable to people who don't have the time to research or be on the lookout for new shit.

I'll update the list with the new stuff tomorrow guys.

Edit: The changes have been implemented. I also added a Melodic Death Metal Section, and I'm thinking about adding stuff like Drone, Post Metal, etc. We'll see. I don't want to make an entire column for something like Cult of Luna when I can just put it in other/progressive. Maybe I'll just put a genre tag next to the ones in that column.

Who's dick? If you answered, that would clear up a few questions, right after "what on Earth are you talking about?"

Ruins of Beverast are going to be the top for me this year. Right next to Satan's Life Sentence.
