Metal Forum Radio: Twin Headed Heavy Metal Hellion

In a time before djurent djerents and groove/groovy/proggy deathcore, classic, sweaty, balls-to-the-wall heavy metal bands walked the Earth. These bands didn't need any clothes and took no shit from nobody. And cheese wasn't taken ****ing lightly around here, neither.

To remember this awe-inspiring era I have crafted from the fires of hell a double edged sword embellished with the magic of equal parts Thor and Odin.

I'm Never Blue

Come With Me To Future World

If you don't listen to both back to back you aren't even a real man.

Schedule:
October 7: severed-metal
October 14: Helloween4Ever
October 21: AnnihiSlateR
October 28: Emenius Sleepus
November 4: rg_metal

Edgay, that's it for that.

Queen is such a nice touch to this ballsy music list, probably one of the more suited tracks to this. Can't hate on W.A.S.P. or Lizzy Borden though! That's all I'm at for the moment. Can't go wrong with Heavy Load either.

Couldn't help myself with the Queen track. You'll have to forgive me. To be honest the first one is a little eclectic. The second one I feel confident delivers though.

Haven't heard Armoured saint in a while though, rad as shit. Hate Def Leppard though. But some otherwise great acts in here. Lots of sing-a-longs. Feels so good.

Not a fan of def leppard myself but that song is pretty catchy. Actually all-in-all that isn't a bad album

That Edguy song was the first I heard by them, I thought they would be the best power metal band in the world. Too bad, after the first 2 or 3 albums they went to the shitter IMO.

Edguy - Love Edguy, though I'm more a fan of their middle period with Theater of Salvation and Vain Glory Opera.
Hallowed is a mixed bag for me, it's a bit ploddy in the verse, but the chorus is gold. Though I prefer the 2000 re recording of it if I'm honest. It's just got a bit more about it.

WASP - self titled is a 5 fist album. Can't fault it. Hellion used to be my favourite track, but recently Sleeping in the Fire has over taken it.

I'll crack on with more later.

Solid mixes, not gonna lie. Are we gonna try to start this up again or no? Cause I'd be down to try again.

You guys are silly. The last three times someone has made a mix, there has been talk of starting this up again and nothing happened, despite the support from fellow forum patrons. If you want to start it up again, then do it. Also dibs next spot. Monday time slots? Neato bandito. October 7th.

But until then, focus should be put on Kyto's list. Get some hype back into this.

I didn't realise there had been attempts to revive it. I had spent a bit of time in the Alt/Inide forum, and did a couple of forum radio's over there, but I didn't think anyone cared any more over here.

People just made one offs and then other people wanted to continue it but nothing happened. I don't think anyone made it with the intent to start it up again.

I actually like all their material. I think it would be fair to say they were a solid power metal group up to (and including) Hellfire Club. Everything after that kinda falls into the AOR category, but hey, I love me some AOR from time to time.

I reaaaaaaaaly wanted to do Fuck Like a Beast. But I thought more people would be into Hellion because it's a bit heavier. And Fuck Like a Beast wasn't on the original recording I don't think.

The style and production of un-remastered Savage Poetry fit the best with the other tracks. And that track is killer IMO. Verse is nice and headbangy and like you said the chorus is great.

Fair enough, turns out they released a lot more albums than I thought in the late 90's and early 00's. Even still, nowadays theyre not so great.

I call after severed, so

I've put that in the OP. Glad some people are excited to get this up and running again.

Continuing...

Lizzy Borden - This is actually my first time listening, despite me being familiar with the band. I dig it. I might have to explore further.

Queen - Always reminds me of my dad. Queen and REM where staples in the car. As great as Freddy was, I love the gruff Rod Stewart-alike vocals of Roger Taylor, they suit the track perfectly.

Heavy Load - Now we're talking. Admittedly I've only really gotten to know Death or Glory fully as an album, but I am some what familiar with Stronger than Evil and Metal Conquest. I think they are possibly the most criminally overlooked bands of the era. You've made me want to listen to them after this mix though.

Glacier - Never heard of them, but this is sounding very good from the off. Once it kicks in it's good, but I think it ebbs and flows a bit too much in terms of energy. Still not bad.

Death SS - again, never before listened but am familiar, but it was good, but I can't remember anything about it now it finished.

Halloween - I'm not ashamed to say I misread it as Helloween, and wondered who was singing on this track haha. Not bad.

S.A.D.O - another I'm unfamiliar with, not bad, but I won't be rushing out to find the album.

mix two coming later.

You have to be in a really weird state of mind to dig S.A.D.O., which thankfully I was.

Lizzy Borden I would suggest you begin with the Love You to Pieces album if you want to explore them.
