What does it take to be a successful punk band today?

You're all aspiring musicians, even if you can't play well (zing!). What would make you wanna go see a band live? Why isn't that band your band? Why don't you stop being lazy, get off the heroin, stop drinking, and go DO SOMETHING MUSICAL? What is success? Is it achievable by a punk band? Is punk relevant today? Why or why not? If not, why do you still listen to it?

You know, instead of looking at this dead board.

success & punk are mutually exclusive values.

That all depends on what you mean by success.

At least the no-name band you saw in the dive bar last night isn't in debt millions of dollars to a record company. Cause record deals are worse than they ever were. Remember that thing Steve Albini wrote in Maximum Rock n Roll in the early 90s? It's worse than that now.

Patches and torn up jeans will make you a very successful punkx raux vand.

Or if you get your fashion from Funkyzeit this will also up your game.

It's like someone else said, it depends on what you consider success. If it's getting on MTV and the billboard charts, probably not. Not unless you go the pop punk route. If it's having decent sized fan base, not having to work a day job and still having money to record and tour and stuff, then yeah. I think it's possible. As far as punk being relevant, of course. Otherwise, people wouldn't be listening to it.

Usually Good songs, Im not the sort of person to just go because hey a band is playing tonight?

Im in my mid 20's, I never wanted to really wanted to be part of a scene or have any notoriety. I just wanted (still do) hang out with my buddies by playing music, have a jack and coke, cover our favorite songs, write a couple, and play for our other friends.

I think if you go into music thinking of success then I think your playing for the wrong reason.

I think punk music itself will always be relevant because at the end of the day it tackles the expression of emotion, and the highs and low of life, relatable subjects to young and old and so forth and so on. But as in that naive 16 year old anarchy, lets make a change...it never really was that in its truest sense, nor will it ever be because its just music at the end of the day and sub cultures will never really have any long lasting effect on the grand scheme of things.

I listen to punk rock because its the perfect mix of melody, aggression, and thoughtfulness. But I don't feel thats exclusive to one genre alone
