I initially felt the same way, but wanted the challenge! Thankfully Crunk was very chill to work with and we're both open minded about music so we could do some wackier things.

How we did things: I wrote kind of the barebones of the track in Guitar Pro, then Crunk tweaked things and added more synth and wrote a few of his own sections. Then when we had enough parts we sorted out the structure of what order we'd put everything.

So then Crunk exported all the drums, bass and synth as midi and got all the appropriate sounds to create a backing track so I could record guitar parts. He'd edit things and add effects and I'd say 'add some more reverb/low pass filter' or whatever. There was a ton of sending things back and forth between Skype. Then when all the parts were recording and I was happy with the guitar sounds it all got mixed and voila. Finished song.

I did want to record some more guitars and do real bass but my tendonitis wouldn't allow it.

Is it possible, or permissible, to download the tracks? I really liked everyone's work and want to have them on my iPod.

Congratulations everyone!

A couple notes about "Push" for those interested:
I wrote the whole song and its parts and recorded the electric bass and vocals. The recordings were all one take. Damian's the mastermind in recording. He programmed my drum tracks and recorded the electric guitars.

The lyrics/vocals were a last minute effort. We didn't even plan them. The morning Damian sent me the instrumental track, I listened to it obsessively the whole day and the lyrics began to form. (I always wanted to write a song inspired by the fitness center I work at). I recorded the ideas of me singing over it, sent them to Damian, and we just knew we had to do it.

A big shout out to Damian. If, no-WHEN we do another collaboration contest, anyone who gets paired with him should feel really lucky. He kept consistent contact with me and he did not half-ass his effort. We sent several recordings back and forth, making comments and adjustments, and he was relentless in making the song sound great.

I love listening to "Push" and I've shared it with some IRL friends. They really like it.

You hear that Damian?! Now you can't disappoint.

I would like to remaster mine. I'm not happy with the bass and stuff. I think entity was gonna let us resubmit on our own time and release them as a pack or whatever, but the artists can do whatever they want so they might get you one sooner

my favorite part of the whole experience was the random pairings. it was fresh, not like seeking someone out to collaborate with. you really have to flex your creative muscles and step it up instead of just doing your usual old groove

Seeing as I'm a Pit-mod and am supposed to try and maintain the community etc., I gave it some thought the other day and was thinking of a proposal for you lot (and some other people).

As some of you know, there's a monthly competition ran by HATEBREEDER, called the 'CAPTM' contest where people pick a song and have 21 days to record it, and then there is voting for a week, then a few days before the next one starts (most months). That could do with new blood, and this thread attracted new blood and the entries were great.

Assuming both entity and HATEBREEDER are up for it, how about we combine the two ideas and have a rotational system? The collaborations to write an original song obviously require more team work and creative juices to write music, so I was thinking (initially) maybe have 3 months of the covers competition, then 1 month for this collaboration one, and so on, meaning there is a collaboration comp. once every quarter, to keep things fresh and prevent those who only want to do original stuff having to enter something every month?

If people like the idea, I'll suggest it to the CAPTM guys too and see what they think.

I would love to do this.

Also regarding the downloads of MP3's, if the artists are all cool with it and don't want to remix/remaster their tracks, I will put them up for download.

And yeah, part of the appeal of this for me was the idea of taking people out of their comfort zone- pairing people randomly worked perfectly for that. And it turned out really well, all the submissions were great, if this becomes a regular thing I'd love to see some of the stuff people produce.

As long as it has a better name than "Calling All the Pit's Musicians". That name is god awful.

Or "Calling All Pit The Musicians" as I mistakenly abbreviated it to

But yeah, if people were keen on the idea I'm happy to help get it sorted and mediate between the groups and organisers

I wrote most stuff and HailFire recorded most of the stuff.

Also, the stuff I recorded, I recorded it in something like an hour and a half before mixing it as I had to go out to dinner.

I'm cool with putting the mp3 up for download, and thanks everybody for the kind comments

Now that we can break anonymity, I'd like to continue from what entity said earlier about 'Death Hop' only having short notice etc. Basically, no fault of whoomit's but I completely forgot about the competition after an initial discussion as I didn't check my PM's or come on here much other than to do basic mod stuff. In the end, I saw this thread in my User CP and we had just under 48 hours until the final deadline/last extension.

As rabidguitarist correctly presumed, the idea was originally for the song to have vocals but I just ran out of time trying to come up with lyrics that didn't sound crap - kept the 'Let's Go!' in because it added to the weight of the hit when everything came in.

Thanks for the compliments about the guitars/competence and creativity etc. - whoomit was responsible for all the synth parts, and as they spawned my initial ideas for the rest of the track, you can thank him for the creativity there

Edit: Oh, and congrats to the winners by the way! You won by a clear mile, and congrats to 2nd place who also had a lot of votes!

I liked yours and whoomit's a lot

Thanks! If the "Let's go!" at the start wasn't off-putting/not your thing, it would have been better with the vocals I had planned, but then again if they had been in, some people may have been put off as it was mainly gonna be screamy stuff (I don't sing too well ).
