Very nice. That looks like a perfect carve for being done by rasps. Great job!

I haven't seen a lot of wenge bodies. It looks so cool though. Your work looks great.

That is very good carving.
Do you have a bandsdaw? That would save you a massive amount of time instead of carving off the huge amount of wood on the back. I cut mine at a taper from 3/4"at the nut to 7/8" a couple inches above where the heel will be. This leaves a minimal amount to be carved off the back.

So sexy!

Couldn't you have built another neck from that piece?

Thanks, man! I honestly don't remember, but it wasn't too long considering. Like Explorerbuilder has said, the key is a bandsaw... if you have one available.

I'm still figuring this out, so I'm just trying to copy the thin U from an ESP. I started by marking out the profile, then carved it to thickness (sideways profile of the volute and heel only). If you then carve a thin 45 bevel onto each edge, you can start chasing that around to meet the binding edge and centre. Focus on getting a round, fat profile and the volute will take care of itself. It comes out pretty rough with a rasp, but you can clean it up really easily with a cabinet scraper and sandpaper (80-120 grit works great, especially if you have some cloth-backed strip). The volute and heel can be joined-up with a spokeshave.

Rough shaping: Rasp and spokeshave
Cleaning-up: Cabinet scraper, sandpaper
Spot levelling or smoothing contours: Sanding drum on a drill press

Then it's a case of adjusting the profile with a scraper and sandpaper, until you're perfectly happy.

Get on it!

I still don't have a bandsaw, which obviously makes me a massive rookie It's my next purchase though, if this ends up being a success!

I probably could have, if I'd blocked the heel and tenon instead! I really wanted to play it safe though. None of it was really wasted either, because it was made from offcuts anyway

I figured it was worth doing some fretting practice before working on the wenge neck. The maple/purpleheart neck has now been fretted, levelled, crowned, dressed and polished:

I also did a level, crown, dress and polish on the fretwork from the green SS, because it was awful to play:

The process seems good, so it can be applied to the wenge one now!

Lots of sanding and general tidying up:

I've also roughed the profile on the sapele neck for this one, so I can get cracking on the neck pocket.

Grain filling the zebrano and wenge guitar after staining:

I wanted to get it stained, filled and levelled before getting glue anywhere near it. Fretting next, then I need to get the neck in. Oh, and I forgot to stain the headstock!

So sexy! Would've been sexier if it had the Tele shape.

Haha, I'd be disappointed if you didn't mention a Tele I should try one, complete with a bolt-on neck and flat headstock.
