Bossa Nova Rock?

Is there such a thing?

A modern rock band that combines the rhythm, harmony and overall calm and relaxing sounds of bossa nova with rock music be it indie, proggy, screamy or anything in between.

Well, you're better of looking for some brazilian bands if you're in need of some rock infused bossa nova. It might not be your kind of thing, but I'd recommend you a band called Los Hermanos. Here's some songs:

They do have more rock-ish songs, but since you asked for a calm sound I think these ones are amongst their best. Hope you enjoy them

Novos Baianos. They're a really amazing Brazilian band from the late 60s early 70s and easily in my top 3 favorite bands of all time. Their influences range from all different types of Brazilian (Bossa, samba, forro etc...) music, as well as rock from the U.S. during that era.

But also check out some of the early material Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes, Tom Ze, and other Troplicalia artists.

Some of my favorite tunes by Caetano Veloso. If you like them, you should check out his latest records(Zii e Zie and CÍ)and Transa(perhaps his most critically acclaimed record).
