Iron Maiden
Umm... What in the name of Steve Harris happened to the Iron Maiden thread? Seems to have disappeared...
So seeing as it was one of the most popular threads in this forum, here's the Iron Maiden Thread v2, discuss away. As a starting topic, what are your thoughts on the new album? Rumours are that it'll be another Seventh Son-esque concept album, which sounds good to me. Also, as most know, 'The Essential Iron Maiden' is to be released in the US on 12th July, and the cover image can be viewed here. |

I guess them mod-types are cracking down, maybe Iron Maiden was a casualty.
Wasn't only 4 of the songs off of 7th Son... actually concept? I thought the whole thing in its entirety wasn't a concept album, it just had 4 songs that told a story. EDIT: Yeah, that's a terrible cover. Why the hell did they ditch Eddie? I'd rather see a cool monster than 50 year old men that bear uncanny resemblences to women.

I'm really into Bruce Dickenson's solo work lately. Holy **** he can do crazy things to his voice. You should check out the solo cd.

if you're talking about Tyranny of Souls, then yes, its good, and really shows off his voice, the 2 before it, Accident of Birth, and The Chemical wedding are much better as a whole. And the Essential Iron Maiden is not being made with the band, but by the record company alone, so the band has nothing to do with the cover, hence the lack of eddie. And the cover for the new dvd, death on the road is much better! ![]() |

yea the new cover sucks, and why are they're 6 guys shouldnt their only be 5? another cd like powerslave or dance of death would be nice, 7th son of a 7th son has some good stuff on it though also.

For the last 2 albums there's been 6 members, Adrian Smith returned when Bruce replaced Blaze Bayley. And 'The Essential Iron Maiden' is wholly pointless, as they have 2 'Best Ofs' already, which should suffice for any band, and this one, like ETG, doesn't even have 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' (ie, the song that is the cream of Iron Maiden's long career, and is better than feckin 'Journeyman'.. reed would try to convince you otherwise though ).That 'Death On The Road' cover is pretty good indeed, though again, the songs are just... 'Rock In Rio' + a bit of 'Dance Of Death'. Which is why I'm only looking forward to Maiden's new material, and not the regurgitated stuff the record company are putting out. |

No I'm pretty sure all of Seventh Son is a concept... at least by my interpretation it is. It all flows together like that. However, I have heard both sides of the story.

I'll probably buy that dvd. I would rather just buy all of their albums than a Best of... at least for Iron Maiden.
On the dvd cover, Eddie has intestines and what looks to be hairy tesicles hanging from his scythe .

Out of the majority of the classic metal bands, I've always disliked Maiden.
Something about them just makes me cringe when I hear them. and I think it's Bruce Dickinson's annoying voice.

Yah, best of my ass. Gotta buy all the albums.
..I should talk, I haven't bought any of them, but I will! And Cradle of Filth's version of Hallowed Be Thy Name is good. Probably the only listenable CoF, imo. When they say they are Satanic they aren't kidding, they've been sucking Satan (the record company)'s dick the whole time.

The only classic metal band that I can't listen to at all is Judas Priest - I just think they are terrible But I love Maiden the most out of the 'classic' metal bands - I dont think their music ever gets dated - a lot of Black Sabbath does IMO COF's version was actually quite good - but I only listened to it once and dont plan on listening to it again.

Eh, Cof raped the solos in that song. And that Dani fellow's voice annoys me, it's like a failed attempt at a proper growl.

I'm kind of new to Maiden, for the longest time I couldn't stand Bruce and the cheesiness of some songs. I gave "The Trooper" a chance and realized why all these people like them.
The CoF version was okay, but Dani is a jackass and ruined it somewhat.

I used to be a pretty big fan of Maiden but I'm sorta getting sick of the power metal vocals.. I prefer death and black metal vocals to be quite honest. I can't stand power metal anymore..... but.. i guess there will always be a place for maiden in my heart. ![]() |
