Learning fretboard notes

Hi guys!
I made a little program that asks random fretboard position notes and gives the right answer.
Example: "What is the 2 string 4 fret note?"
I wanna share this program as a lesson because learning the fretboard notes is really useful.

here is the link:

Nice idea! But personally i dont see the point in learning fret notes. Might just be me though. If i knew of a good reason to learn them. i probibly would!!

One thought. When it says the second string. I take it you mean B. People who are newer might think it's A. Or am i wrong too?!!

Oh sorry for little mistake :P I will correct it.
Learning fretboad notes is really helpful when you are playing on a chord progression and you want to do a solo over it. It's like the gap between soloing and scales... you have to know where the scales starts.

Ok it's fixed!

OK.

1. if you see no reason to learn your notes, then you really shouldn't be commenting anywhere in this forum.

especially in a thread about learning notes.

and if you're serious, I pity you.

2. yes, it's just you.

3. if people don't know 2nd string = B string then they're nowhere near even being able to use this. or even think about knowing notes on the neck. or they're simply just ******ed and shouldn't be considered.

perhaps they're the other people that don't see the point in learning things about their instrument.

I'm usually very against any sort of "fretboard" trainer. but I think this might be a good attatchment to a "notes on the neck" lesson. a thorough one!

however, one problem, and a huge problem at that, which I found right off the bat, is that your program doesn't acknowledge enharmonics. specifically, the flats.

for example

both of these are indeed correct answers, but your program says "oh sorry..."

which is just blatantly incorrect and should be fixed.

otherwise I knd of dig it in the sens that it makes you use your memory, instead of some arbitrary image of a fretboard which gives you the crutch of visually counting up from a fret you know in order to name a fret you jave no clue about.

fix the enharmonic thing and it'll be pretty solid.

some other things I'd suggest.

where it asks the question "what is..."

first off, I'd get rid of having "what is". whoever is using it knows what the thing whats to know. so I'd just leave it as "string & fret ? "

I'd also use proper numerical titles like 1st 2nd 3rd etc.. when asking the string.

like, right now it says "5 string 7 fret note" it's kind of cumbersome and ... almost goofy.

we know you're looking for the note, no need to put that word in there.

so just have it as "5th string, 7th fret?"

just some suggestions.

but the thing about the flats needs to be fixed.

hell, in the options menu you could even have it so they can switch between #'s and b's for the naming exercise.

I came here to tell the guy i thought it was a good idea. An i happened to spot a mistake that could easily confuse newbies. What the **** does me not wanting to learn the notes have to do with anything about me posting on this forum? And it was my opinion so why the hell are you bashing about it??? It has nothing to do with you. If you want to learn the notes, be my guest. But for people who don't, then that's thier choice. Let them be.
well done for your contribution to this forum. Now be quiet.
