Savatage?

Has any one ever heard of this band? I was at a local music store and the guy said that the guitar player fom Savatage was gonna be doing a lil clinic type thing. He said the band is from clearwater but they are really big in Europe. Ive never heard of them but he said teh guy can really shred and if im into metal that this would be a great thing.

I love them, absolutely amazing band. If Criss Oliva hadn't died, I believe he'd be regarded as one of the greatest guitarists alive today.

^ Yeah pretty much. Talented, power metal, but they're just so....cheesy. And they sound like a lot of other power metal bands.

Never gave them a listen, but the side project Circle II Circle kicks ass. The most recent album is great.

Savatage is good, but TSO > Savatage.

Sirens and Hall of the Mountain King are bad ass albums. Their progressive stuff has it's moments.

^ Yer, Alex Skolnick had to take over from him. But what are some good songs which show his talent ( i'm afraid i don't know his name).

Skolnick only played on one album following Criss Oliva's death, I don't think it was meant to be a long term thing.

Gutter Ballet has been my favorite of their's for awhile now. Hall Of The Mountain King kicks ass too. Taunting Cobras is pretty cool, too. I think they are pretty sweet, and a great metal band. Someone above me said theat they were kinda cliche, but hey, they kinda like, made the cliche, since they are one of the oldest power metal bands.

I have "Of Poets and Madmen" which really doesn't excite me so much. Still Jon Oliva = great, "Jon Oliva's Pain"is really cool too
