Wintersun
Alright, Wintersun pwn. I've been told they're melodic death, although some people have been calling them "Winter Metal". Their only release to date was "Wintersun" on Nuclear Blast. They're going to be recording for the next album in May!
Favourite tracks: - Sadness and Hate - Battle Against Time http://www.kolumbus.fi/jarimetal/wi...tersun_news.htm BTW: I found them through MoM.

Amazing band, I always figured they were power metal from the name but quite far from it.

Jari is a machine. The recording of Wintersun is just him (playing everything sans drums) and a drummer. They actually have a touring lineup now, I believe. I also think they are currently in the studio recording a new album for summer/late 2006 (i am guessing).
Oh ya, Viking/Folk Metal I would call them.

Not to mention the fact that Jari does everything except drums. I wonder what it's going to sound like with the new members?

Not all that much different, but we'll see. I think Jari left Ensiferum to make a band that was pretty much him sharing a vision (I know it sounds cheesy), writing pieces for all the instruments and arranging them like a classical composer would. He writes some pretty epic **** and everything fits together pretty well. To maintain the sound of Wintersun, he is going to have to have a fair degree of control over the songwriting process, possibly to the behest of his bandmates. But the first album, IMO, was perfection - why **** with good thing?
(I know this post is rather disjointed, but I am tired)

Definatly one of my favorite bands. I got the album mid-June and it's literally been in my cd player ever since. As people have said , Jari is amazing, to be able to write a whole album except drums is crazy. It shows how much talent he has.
Whens the next album coming out? I think i heard this summer? One of the best melodic/winter metal bands out there right now in my opinion. They can pwn so many other bands in my opinion. They just need some more records!

Ah c'mon. You gotta love those bouncy, folksy riffs. But ya, after hearing Wintersun, Ensiferum is definitely lacking something.

In my opinion Ensiferum gets an 7 or 8 in asskissery (as Metalology says).
Wintersun would have to get a 10 in asskissery since they have not left my cd player for the past 5 months ![]()

Haha, the tone isn't that bad. It fits the music well. Reminds me a bit of Dissection.

Well I'm listenign to the 2nd one and its MUCH better, but the first one sounds like a pod on meth or something.
I'm picky about that kind of **** though. I was mainly dissappointed because the music was so good but it sounded like some **** POD or something.

The lead tone is good but the rhythm tone I agree could use improvement. I believe it comes from the fact that he used a Telecaster on the album.
