It's probably their least interesting release, but by no means does that mean it's bad. Oath Bound is my favorite surprisingly. |

Minas Morgul is absolutely amazing.. if their other stuff is even better, then I HAVE to get some more Summoning albums.

I knew there was a Summoning thread on here some where!
They are my favorite band! Well, besides Kreator of course :P How would you rank the Summoning albums? 1. Stronghold 2. Oath Bound 3. Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame 4. Minas Morgul 5. Dol Guldur 6. Lugburz |

Stronghold is near the top. I don't like to rank **** though. I like different albums for different reasons.

Yes, that it does. I am a LOTR fanatic, and when I heard about this band, I just had to hear it. This, this music just transports me right to Middle Earth, and I must say it is Hella better than real life

Really cool. I have Oath Bound and it sounds like the reverb is set to 11 (HA), with chorus on the distorted guitars. Its definitely an interesting sound. Is that how it is on all of their albums? And if I'm getting another one of their albums would Stronghold be the best one?

Minas Morgul and Dol Guldur are probably the best. The sound - particularly of the orchestration - is more primitive, but the actual composition is much better. The later material has a lot of cheesy heavy metal rock riffs set off by orchestration that just shadows the guitar lines in open harmony, without any sort of contrapuntal or melodic embellishment: Stronghold, in particular, is basically video game music in all but name. The earlier material is more complex, more musically sophisticated and a lot more intelligently constructed. |

I'm going to have to disagree on this. The songs on those albums just seem to kind of be dragged out, just being long for the sake of being long. I don't get that problem on any of the last three releases, however. For the band Summoning, they don't have a "best." Every person has a different perspective on the albums, much more so than any other band. |

The song lengths are pretty consistent across their discography though, but there's just a lot more going on in the Minas Morgul/Dol Guldur/Nightshade Forests-era stuff.
And, again, I just can't get over the budget riffs and the ham-handed synth doubling of Stronghold. It just feels like such a pander, like they know that a lot of people didn't have the attention span to follow the earlier material, so they kept the basic aesthetic but streamlined it into rock/videogame music to move units. It clearly didn't work out, if that was the intent to begin with, and Oath Bound was definitely a move back in the right direction, even if it still had way too many foreshortened riffs that lack the majesty the music demands. I'm more averse to 'Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame' personally.
I CAN SHIFT MY SHAPE etc.
