Cutaway acoustic
I've been looking around a lot, but I can't find many acoustics that have a florentine cutaway like this guitar:
http://www.music123.com/Epiphone-PR...ay-i27916.music Someone told me that it was a laminate top, though for top it just says "Select Spruce." Should I just assume that unless it specifically says solid top that it's a laminate top? I really like the access to higher frets on the shape of the cutaway without banging my hand into the body when I played on a guitar well out of my price range. ![]() Does anyone know of any acoustics like this guitar, but with solid top/back/sides for around $700 or less? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I don't think you are going to find a guitar with solid top/back/sides AND a cutaway for under $700. If you are lucky you might find one at a pawn shop, but I doubt it. If you want to give up on the cutaway then you could get something like a Martin D15 which is solid mahogany. There are also a lot of off brand guitars that will have solid back and sides in the $700 to $800 aria. Or for around $500 you can get a guitar with a solid top and a cutaway but laminated back and sides. I don't think the cutaway will be a florentine cutaway tho. It's really too bad more companies don't do the florentine. It just looks so nice.
OH yeah... Your freind that told you that the epi had a laminate top was right. He was also right when he said that "select spruce" means laminate *and* he was correct when he said that if it has a solid top they will say "solid top". You still have to be careful tho. Some makers will lie and say that they have "solid wood construction" but they will still be made from plywood. Your best bet is to go to a mom and pops music shop and have one of their staff help you out. Don't ask if it's solid ask if it it laminate.

as usual, corduroyew is correct. if it doesn't say "solid top" then it's not going to be a solid top. there's not a guitar maker in the world that would build a guitar with a solid top and not advertise it. it's such a bonus over laminate that it'd be really stupid from a selling standpoint to leave this piece of information out.
in your price range i think you could probably find an acoustic-electric with a solid top and a florentine cutaway but not solid back and sides also. are you wanting an acoustic or an acoustic-electric? most guitars with cutaways are acoustic-electric. lemme think about it for a while today because im pretty sure i have come across and even played a few guitars (seems like i've played some fenders in that price range) that match this description. after i think about it and do a little looking around i will get back to you. Thanks for the replies, I guess I could go for something with just solid top and the cutaway, do you know any guitars like that in my price range? I really love the florentine cutaway... it really is unfortunate more guitar makers don't use it.
I am looking for either acoustic or acoustic/electric, but I figured most cutaways are generally acoustic/electric anyway.

If you are getting a gutiar for under $700 that has a cutaway the stay away from martin! The martin guitars with cutaways in this price range use formica for the back and sides and they don't hold up. I would also stay away from Ibanez and Fender. These guys make good electric guitars but their acoustic guitars are just a name. They are poorly made and and overpriced.
I would suggest Seagull and Alvarez off the top of my head. They are great guitars for the money. Washburn and epiphone are pretty good too but they are a bit hit or miss for quality and sometimes they are over priced. The rule of thumb is really just to go to the local music shop and play everything you can get your hands on.
