many talk of guitar customizing. many talk of getting pick-ups just to show off. many talk of buying custom made guitars.
yet few actually do. anyhow, i was playing some nice guitars at denmark street london, - i played some prs's, epi's, ibanez, jj's, fenders... and only guitar i liked better in terms of feel was the santana 3 (thanks for letting me play it!). but i dont have £3000, only £400. so i thought wy buy another low range guitar if i didnt like it as much; and so i went home. after talking to some friends on msn, i got a sudden rush of crazyness and inspiration, and i decided to rebuild my guitar from its body and neck, since thats what i love about it. my guitar was a yamaha eg112, indonesian made ( ), frankly terrible elertonics and tuners, but the neck that is on (its bolt-on btw) is same as the expensive pacificas have (mine is a level below).allright thats the introduction, below is a photo of guitar prior to work some notes: -this is a diary, so please dont mess up with spam and be patient as attaching images is time consuming -i'll answer all questions / comments, and please help me if you know answer to a particular problem etc -please feedback, but with thought and creativity -i'm writing each installemnt in indigo to make it easier to separate comments (both mine and yours) and actual diary ![]() |

allright today's day 2 of work....
**** i havent been this nervous in years. i have decided to completely build the guitar from scratch, on the basis of my strat. why? i want a great custom made guitar and my life seemed empty lately so i took off the strings, neck - no problems there pickguard was hard - the knobs were really really, i mean really strongly put on, but they came off in the end. then took off bridge - found out lots on how guitars are built by doing so. then took off back pickguard, tuners, strap locks, input jack. found coulnt take off electronics without a soldiering iron, so they had to be left there for a while then i begun polishing fretboard with wood wax. 5 coats later and 5 hours of polishing with cloth, the wood shows great detail, and has gained an ebony-type colour much better than old greyed out, dirty wood before |

You migt want to be careful if you do decide to shape down the heel of the guitar. It looked like just a bolt on neck so it might interfere with the neck's anchoring if you do shape it. But you are the one that has the guitar and you know how it is setup, and I'm just trying to help you notice what will and wont work. So if you can shape it, do.

i'm going to repair shop tomorrow to buy parts....
i've thought up a new combo - what do you think? neck - emg 81, mid - mini SD jb (single), bridge 0 dimebucker with kahler tremolo opinions? now i dont know if it would work, but i'm thinking of using a 3 way switch at this time.... what do you think of the kahler? EDIT: that should give practiacally any tone, warm (the jb), cold (dimebucker), emg81 for metallica-ish sound... Last edited by StreamLine : 04-18-2003 at 05:36 AM. |

Goodluck wiring passive and active hums together, they mix like oil and water. Id go for the duncan distortion for metallica like tones.
Kahler trems, some people hate em, some love em, but the floyd killed it in the 80s. I havnt played one, but id prefer the floyd. |
