1 - Not that fast.

Hello! I'm new, so I don't know if posting here would be considered bumping or not...forgive me if it is...by the way I have a bunch of speeds I'd like to have confirmed:

Dave Murray from Iron maiden taps and then hits again with legato a fairly clean 16.7nps in sign of the cross

here's another one:

Axel rudi pell "the german guitar wizard" is known for his speed, I think he in fact plays 32nds at 140 bpm in carousel with pure alt picking, that's probably his cleanest performance, excluding maybe desert fire (I'm not sure about the speed on that one). that's more or less 18,6 nps.

could someone confirm these speeds? thanks

I'll post videos too:

Dave Murray's tapping (skip to 6:55)

ARP alternate picking in carousel (skip to 5:00)

If I got those speeds wrong, feel free to correct me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

I've got a couple more speeds I'd like someone to confirm

Gary Moore-End of the world (live; go at 2:15)

16.3 nps alternate picking

Reb Beach-solo in instructional video "cutting loose"
from 1:47 onwards

20 nps tapping

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

editing for the win: with this edit I take away some useless stuff from my previous edit and I ask someone to help me clockin' one of the very few example of alternate picking from iron maiden's dave murray

at 0:36-37ish

Matthew Bellamy does 32nd note tremolo picking during the choruses of Glorious at 102 bpm, that's 13.6 nps. Probably not fast enough for the list.

Not really but more than that, just tremolo picking doesn't make the list. If it did there would be a tonne of death and black metal players who would be on it but really have no place being there.

He's not even in time at 170bpm and major parts of some of the runs are already poorly fretted and sloppy as shit at 300. There's no way 999 is worth anything.

Also I find it hard to believe that he didn't think of setting the metronome to 500 and playing it double time for 1000bpm.

This whole Guinness record thing is stupid though, I preferred it when they didn't track guitar speed at all.

I feel like after 500, you can get away with anything

Especially with that tone. Let's hear it clean

I feel that after 500, it all sounded the same anyway; crappy. It's a cool gimmick, but that's all.

I just can't stand the fact that they all play over midi backing tracks. Of course it's gonna sound like it when you are essentially playing fuzzy noise over an absolutely perfect backing. (thats often slightly louder than you).

Guinness aren't doing this record until they have a better way to verify the accuracy of the notes played. Thank christ.

Oh thank fuck for that, I really really want them to just give up entirely. A pox on Tiago Della Vega for starting this up again!

This is probably the fastest I have seen a guitar played . check arround 30 seconds.

And my real submission it Tosin Abasi (dont disregard this because of djent hate and tosin love). in the slap passage, there are one or two ghost notes between each main note.

Am I the only one who couldn't give a toss how fast you can play. Try albert lee fast and clean and no distortion gets my vote look at country boy or tear it up.

Also hes 69 this month

Yep, we only care about speed in here.

Actually the original purpose of this thread was to keep discussions about speed and arguments about who's the fastest out of everywhere else. It's one place where all that stuff is talked about and measured to our best ability.

if you take into account that there are ghost notes between the ones that you hear in the melody, then it is.

No, not it isn't. I can hear the ghost notes since I spent a lot of time listening to slap bassist who do exactly the same thing. There's nothing special going on in terms of speed.

What about Glenn Tipton, guys? He and Downing are pretty fast! There's touch of evil, where Tipton taps groups of ten and twelve notes per beat at 99 bpm at the end of the solo, and a few 16-17 nps runs/sweeps/whatever in songs such as Baptism of fire.
