The Mother Of All 5150/6505 Threads!!!!
Since there seems to be about five billion threads on the 5150 I've decided to take it upon myself to make a thread where users can post questions/answers etc for the 5150. I've got one, several other forum-goers have them, and well.. lets keep the GG&A forum SPAM-FREE so check here for a whole bunch of info on the 5150s.

I noticed this too.
Information: The 5150 is the exact same as the 6505. The 5150 II is the exact same as the 6505+. The II/ + has better cleans, and less gain. The 5150/6505 can have decent cleans with a chorus pedel, despite what many think. The block letter and the signature amps only difference is factory tube quality. The 5150/6505 is low mid focused, making it a very dark amp. Peavey bright amp is the XXX. Hope this helps. Last edited by TheFluffy : 06-15-2006 at 01:33 AM. |

THANK YOU! seriously ive been going thru all these damned threads answering the same questions over and over!
 So yeah, I own (well...I used to OWN it, but I sold it to the guitar player in my band. He lives about 45 seconds away from me so I still consider it mine) a modded 6505. So yeah, I pretty much...liked it...but never had a use for it for some reason...and neither does the kid I sold it to...oh well. Its a kick ass amp anyways, and I love it. [edit] I would do this but I dont have time. Someone make a big list of all the cabs that go good with the head! |

In my opinion cabs that go well with the 5150-
5150 straight cab Any of these as 2x12s or 4x12s- ENGL Traditional w/ v30s Marshall 1960a or AV. MesaBoogie Traditonal w/ v30s Genz Benz G-Flex Carvin Legacy

is it true the 6505 + has less gain then the normal one?

^ Ive read a lot of things saying that the 6505+ has less gain then the 6505...although the amount is unnoticable to most. Besides, with an amp like that who cares which has more or less gain...the bottom line is that the amp has more gain then youll ever need. lol
I also talked to the amp tech for the band Blindside about the amp. (Simon, the guitarist of Blindside was there as well  and hes used the 5150 since like 1994) Anyways, he also mentioned that the 6505+/5150II is a "little more laid back". |

wiat, wasn't it that the +/II had more gain on the rhythm channel, while the lead channel was unaltered?

Yeah.. on a Double Recto I cant stand a gain above 5, so... the 6505+.. enough gain for that?

Yea and wtf gain at 4?? The JSX sounds like a little crunch box if I put it under 6 on ultra lol. And anybody know why the 5150II has only one input and the regular has 2 like most master volume amps? EDIT: Derek lol you're the man, I was asking myself the same question about that. Usually when you want less gain you put in a 12AU7 or AT7 because they have less gain than the AX7.
