This tuning is used a lot in folk if your into that sort of thing. If your into William Fitzsimmons, a lot of his songs are in this tuning ( at least when he plays live ) Just some names off the top of my head.
William Fitzsimmons - Passion Play, Covered in Snow, Find it in Me Iron and Wine - Half Moon, Big Burned Hand (both new) Fionn Regan - Abacus Great tuning, its usually always in my practice routine. Sounds incredible when fingerpicked. |

Not sure about the tuning for a lot of these, but if you're after that distinctive Stephen Stills sound, look at some of his other acoustic songs, between 1968 and 1971, like Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, 4+20, Helplessly Hoping, or the demo album from 1968 (released 2007-ish), Just Roll Tape. Awesome stuff.

DADGAD is my favorite tuning I'm sure, my acoustic is tuned in it most of the time. Some classics are surely white summer/black mountain side by jimmy page/zepplin, though he borrowed that song from Davey Graham, who invented the tuning while traveling around through northern africa and wanted a way to play with the Oud players he met there. 'She moved through the fair' and 'She moved through the bizarre' are what become 'white summer'. Some of his other nice ones with that tuning are 'Maajun', 'seven gypsies', and probably 'riff mountain' too. Apparently, when he came up with the tuning in the 60'. Check out his version of Maajun on the album 'playing in traffic', where he plays the same song on the Oud instead of guitar.
You're gonna have a great time with this tuning, since holding second fret of the g string all other strings open gives a Dsus4 if I'm not mistaken. You can check out Davey graham on youtube, he really is a musical genious who in the minds of some really revolutionized folk music in Britain. Enjoy. |

DADGAD is such a wonderfully inspiring tuning. Awesome for writing things that sound a bit like delta blues.

DAGDAD is a Dsus4. Just play in open D or G there are a ton of songs in either of those.
