Normally, I don't like songs with guttural vocals wherein you can't understand the words but Heartwork is very, very good. So far that's the only one I've heard. What do you recommend?

^ Well their only other melodic-death album is Swansong, so I suggest you check that out.

Swansong is a bit weak...something is missing in there. Although, "Go to Hell" and "Black Star" are cool tunes.

Heartwork isn't gutteral vocals - not by a long shot. gutteral Carcass is Necroticism, and all releases prior to Necroticism. Carcass sold out to Sony as their label after Necroticism, that's why you go "hey, these tracks arn't nearly as violent as I'd like them to be" when you read the track names, and lyrics for Heartwork.

I think Symphonies of Sickness is their best. That and Necroticism. They both kick ass. I love Bill Steer's Growling vocal's. Have any of you heard Fermenting Innard's from the peel session's? crazy ****.

As for Melodic Death, I prefer Arch Enemy
Haven't listened to their grind stuff yet though. What are some good songs of their grind phase to check out?

Since Angela joined the band mike has started to re-use riffs and leads he wrote in caracass. Necroticisim and Heartwork are as good as older Arch Enemy, new AE can't compete with amotts older work. IMO Mike didn't shine in either band, Steer and Chris Amott played much better leads...
