Necroticism and Heartwork are both albums that I praised when I first got them a few years ago, but in retrospect, I've come to the realization that both albums are filled with "meh". Though I might pop them in now and again...

Necroticism is half and half for me. Some of the songs are good as they revert back to the Symphonies of Sickness era, while others kinda go pop heavy metal like Arch Enemy and that's when I just decide to either turn the volume down, or throw Symphonies on.

Hm, I personally don't think so. Of course your definition of "pop" is probably way different from mine, but the catchiness/accessibility of it never repulsed me in any way.

I just have to add, calling an album like Necroticism poppy when I personally don't know any "metalheads" who listen to anything beyond CoB/Metallica/blah seems a bit far-fetched, at least to me.

I know what you mean about the poppiness, but it doesn't really bother me. I feel like it works well on that album.

Tragic that this thread hasn't been posted in for three years. They've got a new album recorded (with Bill's vocals back too) and they're playing shows in support of it in March. Three days in a row at the Underworld in London, I bought one yesterday and two of the dates were sold out already.

When's the album coming out? I'm kinda curious as to what it sounds like.

Title sounds a little 80's hair metal and the track titles sound like fairly bland slam death track titles. But at least it sounds like a step away from Swansong

Someone told me they'd read somewhere it's sounding like the transition between Heartwork and Swansong. Though take this info with a pinch of salt as I can't remember who it was, or where he said he'd heard it.

From that interview:

So if anything, I'd imagine it's more comparable with the middle three albums. Hopefully when they play the Underworld later this month they'll play a few new songs

I found the quote "the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there"

Seems I got the albums mixed up.

Tenner says it ends up sounding like newer Aborted, i.e. completely shit.

Bill Steer's a pretty cool guy though, I have faith he can still write a good riff or twelve.

It's Jeff I'm worried about. The song titles are complete pants, I get the feeling his input will be tepid at best. Organic vegan-suitable Guardian reader goregrind.

What kind of Carcass is it going to be? Necroticism-era? Old-school grindcore era?

I'd be interested to see a couple more tunes from the former.

EDIT: Without Amott though I don't think that will happen, since he went to Arch Enemy or whatever terrible band it was.

Inbetween my two favourite albums, looking good. Bill Steer will prevail.
