Obliteration

Some filthy, raging new age old school Death Metal. This band has been owning me lately and i love the mix of many different sounds into a very coherent but diverse style. This band just obviously knows whats up.http://www.myspace.com/obliterationnorway

I bloody loved the first album. Not heard all of the newest but it sounds even better than the debut.

Saw them live supporting Ramesses and they were amazing, was my introduction to them and they were brilliant. They even added a Repulsion cover to the set list because of my mates Repulsion shirt!

I picked up 'Perpetual Decay' in my local shop of all places, it usually has nothing....and its great stuff! Its oldschool without resorting to that overdone typical osdm sound...and the Autopsy style mid-tempo parts are just killer.

I would love to write something more about these guys, because those vocals are stellar, the music is really well done, and by god, everything in the mix is so great from what I can hear.

Will definitely be picking up stuff by these guys.

For The Smell of Rotten Entrails, does the fellow from Gorerotted play in it? I noticed his high vocals somewhere in the mix, and that intro was also in a Gorerotted song, can't remember which one though.

Top notch death metal.
They're really able to pull off the old school feeling.
The Autopsy influence is obvious, and the vocals are very reminiscent of Chris as well.

yeah this band has a really great sound, very thrashy but sick in that Death Metal way. They use the different influences to good use to make something great.

There are sections perfect for blast beats, but I can't decide if it's a good thing or not.
Could take away a bit of the old-school feeling. (Looking away from Morbid Angel)

Eh i think enough bands blast through their whole discographies,i think it's one of the reasons osdm sounds fresh these days.

overused blastbeats in a song make me cringe sometimes, unless it's despised icon or something then I smile

Perpetual Decay came through the post this morning...man, this band are sick indeed! i've listened to the album four times already. This is exactly how I like death metal to be: raw, straight forward n' thrashy with disgusting gutteral vocals. Without a doubt it's all very Autopsy-esque at times but it's hardy just a nostalgic emulation. I think they have a very modern/individual sound even though it is an old school style.

How young even are these guys? the pics look like they're not even into their 20s.

EDIT: awesome! they are in the uk next month as well....good times

Aye i'll be seeing them play in Newcastle, exact same lineup as the gig a few years ago. Should make for a brilliant gig since both bands have more material than they had last time.

Nekropsalms is godly. Closest thing we'll get to a 'Soulside Journey' in years.

Aye, Strangles. Spot on. It'll definitely be a classic of the genre in a few years. Up there with the most recent Chasm record for me in terms of best modern DM I've heard.

And I love how they threw in some of those really dire sounding howl/shriek things a la TRITSIO. Gives the vocals an extra layer of dynamics not seen in a while.
