Riff Of The Month Ok well Lazy, since you suggested getting a volunteer for analysing a riff for riff of the month I thought I might give it a go. Feel free to edit this as much as you like or delete it if it's crap Riff Of The Month - Gay Bar Ok here is a very simple, but catchy riff by Electric Six. The main riff behind 'Gay Bar' is a simple riff and quite easy for beginners, while being fun to play at any level. Tempo Approx 124bpm Standard Tuning Code: E--------------------------------------------- B--------------------------------------------- G--------------------------------------------- D--0--0--3--5--3--0--------------------------- A--------------------4--3v--3--0--0--3--4--0-- E--------------------------------------------- v - Vibrato (optional) - Rapidly bend and release the note with the fretting hand. I don't really like Electric Six, because i couldn't stand their first single... but i have to admit, tho gay bar is an irritating song it has some good riffs that work well. Simplistic maybe, but if it catches in your head it's doing something right... making riffs is not all about technicalities at ultra-high speed, it's about making the right sound for the type of song, and this riff works well in that sense. __________________ An eye for an eye leaves everyone a pirate.

StreamLine BareKnuckle Freak Join Date: Oct 2002 Location: London, UK	just a though... maybe it should be 'a riff every fortnight' coz one riff a month is sort of boring... i mean even if its a great riff, you'd get bored of it in a week, and there's only so much you can say regarding analysis, without of course going into cas-style 'this riff, based on pythogorian minor, is a typical example of the movement I-IV which is common to all modes similar to the...' sure thats great to read, but very few people on this site could write a 1000 words on a riff. so how about it? of course it would need people on UG to get off their asses a bit more, but it would make it more interesting i think. i could do one sometime as well

Well i'm cool with that... but i kinda doubt we'll get that many volunteers. If enough ppl PM me wanting to do one, i'll make it fortnightly

EDIT: made fortnightly... Rankles and Streamline have some riffs they'd like to do, so PM me with them next week

And everyone else feel free to suggest some.
