looks killer......guess i'll start the conversation.
i'm looking for progressive metal in the vain of Winds (norway)...think borknagar-origin, but done well. suggestions? strings (violins, etc.) are always a plus. also, as far as doom goes, what should be my next step after my dying bride?

Unfortunatly for you its tim fool, those bands are in the core genre in UG's standards. They have their own respected forums on UG to discuss them.

well, the doom metal essentials and albums are, ...
lacking, for lack of a better term. Way too much emphasis on trad doom, and Agalloch wouldn't qualify as an essential, or characteristic band. I'll put some thought into this much, much later and express my thoughts on the issue, as to what should be on the essentials
