Can someone recommend black metal bands like 1349? Preferrably not NSBM.

^^ Frick, I was going to say Epica. For classical/symphonic metal I'd also say Haggard (about 50% classical, 50% death metal), Angtoria, Fairyland, Rhapsody of Fire, and (newer) Therion might be along the lines that you're looking for.
Oh, I just realized you said the heavier the better.... in that case time to take out the symphonic black metal: Agathodaimon, Anorexia Nervosa, Emperor, Graveworm, Limbonic Art, Sword of Darkness, Sycronomica, Tvangeste, and Vesperian Sorrow. |

Symphony X, not that heavy compared to a lot of metal though. Here's a rec request I made that a lot of people couldn't help me with... I'm looking for prog metal with a melo-death influence, preferably with growls. Closest I've found so far was Evergrey, but it's not exactly what I wanted. I'm thinking something more in the vein of Opeth, Riverside, and Dark Tranquillity stuck together.

^^Just wondering, how is uneXpecT considered metal? I assumed they would more along the lines of spastic hardcore.

I swore I asked last night, but I guess I didn't.
But I saw Lacuna Coil on the list for recommended bands and songs for Goth Metal, but they weren't listed as such. And I looked briefly in the genres, and didn't see them. Where are they now? ![]()

Someone wanna give me some good viking/folk stuff (yes I know its not a genre) in the vein of Falkenbach? Just with the big epicness, like viking-era Bathory... maybe like Primordial a bit or something?
Edit: Scourge441, not sure if this will help you out much, but check out Quo Vadis from Canada, consider themselves a tech melo-death band.

lol Its avante garde black metal with jazz and carnival elements. Think Dimmu Borgir + Arcturus + Jazz + female opera vocals. Diablo Swing Orchestra should also go under avant garde metal, and their album is The Butcher's Ballroom. Diablo Swing Orchestra - The Butcher's Ballroom |

Try uneXpect's earlier stuff, it's far less chaotic than In a Flesh Aquarium.
