i believe the jazz he might be reffering to is jazz-influenced songs such as 'Neon' but theyre not jazz in its entirety. i picked up 'the village sessions' and i highly reccommend it. it includes:

'Waiting On The World To Change' ft. Ben Harper
'Belief'
'Slow Dancing In A Burning Room'
'Good Love Is On The Way'
'I'm Gonna FInd Another You'
'In Repair'

in all new, BRILLIANT, acoustic versions. only 6.99 available at indie record stores, nothing corporate, only. definetly pick it up, well worth it.

Yes, Neon is quite the stuff. Even SRV played a little Jazz Res, if you're interested - Stangs Swang (from Couldn't Stand the Weather) and Gone Home (from Soul to Soul).

Meh... his blues lacks soul, originality, and IMO, is just crap.... he should stop trying to make guitar faces to portray emotion, and actually use some emotion.

Atleast SRV (who I don't really care for as well) learned from his forefathers, and made it his own, and was full of emotion. This guy is just straight out copying them in his blues stuff. He's a talented guitarist, and most of his originality is in he's pop music.... he should stick with pop, blues is just something he can't achieve without sounding fake.

EDIT: and the solo to waiting on the world to change, is a direct copy from an SRV song I can't remember... if I can find it I'll post which it was.

Much like what most of the people here have said, I don't like his pop stuff, but his blues songs are really good.

I'm listening to Continuum for the first time and I agree with you in some respects. It's hard to draw the line between being influenced by and completely ripping off someone. I've just listened to the song, Bold as Love and I just noticed how much it sounded like Stevie Ray's, Life without You. The solo is almost identical. He is a talented guitarist but I still think he's not as original as people think he is.

Bold as Love is a Hendrix cover, and SRV is known to make most of his softer songs alot Hendrixy like Little wing.

And "Waiting on the World to Change" has some "Lenny" Lines in it.

Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't know that until you pointed it out. Although SRV is known to be influenced by Hendrix, I don't think it's disputed that he does not directly rip him off.

I actually like some of his poppier stuff, but waiting on the world to change is a great song in my opinion. Plus its gettin more kids with bad music taste into better styles of music

So do I. A lot of people hate pop music only because they're exposed to everyday garbage like Britney Spears. As I've grown up, I've realised that the word "pop" can mean so much more. Similarly, a lot of people don't realise the scope of pop - a lot of bands like Pearl Jam play simple pop songs.

^ so true.

POP means popular. Just cuz u have a catchy simple melody and lyrics does that mean its bad music? no, just means it's good simplistic music.

Just because it's pop doesn't mean it's simplistic either, amigo.

But if you say that, then you're restricting pop to that kind of pop, if that makes sense. Pearl Jam's, "In Hiding" is a simple pop tune but it's pretty difficult to play - the timings are hard to get right, as the band have always said. Pop doesn't mean simple, that's the bottom line. John Mayer's pop stuff is difficult to play, more evidence.

Most pop music is actually pretty complex, but all the playing is done by studio musicians who never get any credit so we don't ever think about it.

Riveria Paradise has alot of Jazzy licks and style to it. Especially the beginning. Later after the piano solo he gets more bluesy though.

His voice doesn't add any credibility to him as a blues artist. His guitar chops are there, but there's just something about him that I don't really like. Can't put my finger on it.

Truthfully SRV sounds nothing like Hendrix to me, unless hes doing a Hendrix cover. SRV's solo style specifically is totally different.
