The MG part could use some more biased opinions, to scare the n00blets off from buying it.

I have 2 questions about the DSL401, not considering buying it I already have it but I have querys...
First, volume. its (only?) 40 watts but then again is a tube. Whats its limits gonna be? I bought it with the intention of gigs, could you tell me what kind of gigs its gonna do the job for? And last, which is pretty much related to the first, Cabs/speakers. If I do need more volume what cabs/speakers are available to me? Cheers. |

any cabs or speakers basically.its got a ohms switch...
40 watts is fairly low. i'd say up to 50-100 people unmiced i guess.

During a gig, I will be suprised if you can get it past 3. Its going to be incredibly loud and easily compete in volume with a 100w solid state amp. If its a combo, then you dont need another cab. If you want it to sound louder, get speakers with dB ratings at 100dB and up. Most good Celestions are 100dB and easily sound much louder than most amp's stock 95dB speakers. Your Marshall may be loaded with nice Celestions though.

Yeap ive been trhough alot of them. Heres a list of the ones ive owned: JCM900 2501 SL-X combo JCM800 4210 Dual Channel JCM800, loved this amp, only the Plexi beated this traded for a head though, since it was annoying to lug the speaker in combo aorund when i only used the amp part mostly. JCM900 4500 Dual Reverb: Was to modern in tone for me. My current amp is a 1987x.

Someone (or a group) needs to make an ongoing chart that basically organizes the marshall amps with the styles of music they do well and don't do well. I will volunteer to be apart of this group. Here's is a rough example of the chart
![]() -The first step is to gather the people..... -next, decide which amps and music to represent. (there's no need to break metal down into the 60 million sub genre's) -then lastly, we all fill out the chart and try to agree what is what List: -Gutch220 - False_God - call1800ksmyazz - - -

What the hell? "Gabe has owned and tried many amps. He's opinion MUST BE CORRECT! Even if his soundtaste differs from mine, HE CAN ONLY BE CORRECT!" And I own a Marshall, and many of the things Gabe wrote I agree on, but that doesn't change tha fact that his first post was purely his own opinnion! There's nothing here to duscuss really.

Well why not add your own opinion to the thread so that Gabel can add it into his post! It'd be nice to have different opinions in there. |

Muhhhh.
To be honest, I don't feel a thread just for a few opinions on Marshalls warrant a stickied thread. If someone wants to do some extra write ups on Fender amps, explaining the differences in Silverface, Blackface, Bassman, etc., we could combine the two threads.. and yeah.. Sorry man, no sticky yet. Talk to TPQ, and if he wants to sticky it, then alright. You're also missing ALL of the Marshall rack gear, as far as I can tell. Edit: I didn't read anything past the first post, so I don't know what's going on up there. ^ ![]() |
