Ok, you can do those if you feel you can do them good. Remember the main thing is to be completely objective and identify the strengths and weaknesses. Other people can also rate these amps. My goal is to get a few people for each amp and take them into consideration when making a final chart. I want to avoid "fanboy" reviews and people with little experience with these amps.
but yea, feel free to take your time and really think about how you rate them. I am bunching the two valvestates together. I'm almost done compiling the table with the amps and the criteria. When this is done I will make a thread about this in order to organize people/amps. There will be 16 amps with 21 different criteria. The ratings will be "Great", "Good", "OK", and "Bad" each with it's own color.

if it's the one I'm thinking of ( i can't remember if it was a jtm 60 or jcm600, or they may even be different versions of the same thing), I didn't like it much- the clean channel was ok, but the overdrive channel was poor, too modern/scooped sounding to my ears, not smooth or refined enough. as for gutch's idea- I think it's a good idea. I definitely think though that a few different versions of metal warrant being up there- it should at least be split into classic (e.g. black sabbath), 80's (NWOBHM/Thrash/Hair Metal) and Modern, since metal is what a lot of the guys here play, and what's more, those differing styles of metal need vastly different amps to attain the tone. I'll take the AVT. It should get "bad" in every category. Oh, and you should have "terrible" as well, to make there an equal number of positive and negative characteristics. Actually, change that to all "terrible" for the AVT. perhaps with cleans being "OK", and classic rock being "bad". And that's being charitable (I assume everything labelled "terrible" won't fly? )

You could call "heavy blues" "blues rock" perhaps? Unless I misunderstand what you mean by heavy blues... blues should definitely be up there, I think I mentioned that to gutch in his pm. I agree with hair metal, but i think the same amp style/tone could be used near enough for hair metal/NWOBHM/thrash, so they could all go under the one category. That is, if we agree with gutch's fascist idea of metal genres. ![]() ![]()

If you want some "good" (
) opinions on the MG, pm TGM (check his review in the reviews section for his POV).

I think you need to add the "Legend" there Gabe so other people can recognize what those colors represent...

![]() And Gabe: perhaps change "OK" to "Average" or "Mediocre", and "Bad" to "Poor", just to make it a little more professional-looking? Nice choice of genres, too- perhaps combine "modern metal" with "metalcore"? Just to make it plain kind of what tone we mean by "modern metal"? Oh, and I just noticed- we don't have "shred" up there! ![]() Anyway, here's what I think of the AVT (Valvestate 2, i guess?) overall cleans: yellow (they aren't that bad...) overall crunch: orange overall distortion: red pedal friendly: red (try boosting the OD channels and you'll see- it cuts out!) Versatility: orange Blues: Orange Jazz: Yellow 50's: Orange Blues Rock: Orange Classic Rock: Orange 70's metal: Red Classic Punk: Orange Hair Metal: Red Thrash: Orange Hard Rock: Red Modern Rock: Orange Grunge: Orange Pop-punk: Orange Modern Metal: Red Nu-Metal: Yellow Bear in mind, I don't play all of those genres, so some of those might not be all that accurate! I was being charitable, too- I figure a list of reds will only enforce the opinion that UG is a "jump-on-the-bandwagon" community. But if you guys want to give it a worse rating, then I'm fine with that too, lol. ![]()

OK, thanks...... the table I'm creating will only have 4 ratings and much less music genre's because some of those are so specific that there's no way the rating will be significantly different. I am trying to consolidate and simplifiy things. None-the-less I can still take your opinions into consideration in reguards to the chart.
I will make a thread later when I get home stating the amps and the criteria. There are about 16 amps, and 21 different criteria (only about 10 music genre's)

^ yeah, it probably is getting a bit squashed- i still say we need 3 for metal, though- classic, 80's (inc. thrash, hair and NWOBHM), and modern. more than that probably isn't necessary, though.
