Well yeah, I'm also too scared to play the thunderverb...Haven't heard too many things about it..

Like I said, go have a quick try with it! Alot of hardcore bands use orange....so did slipknot, but I am not too sure about speedmetal and all.

so far so good im getting a metal muff soon because at the moment im using the gain boost on my jackson a small amount just to push it over the edge for certain things i play but yeah the cleans and dist for anything other than extreme metal types and its simply goregeous

I have a DD-20 and it works great with my Rocker. It depends on how much you want to spend though. If you have a lot of money, then you could get something better than a DD-20.

OMG people. The Thunderverb has a built in attenuator. You can crank it, and use the attenuator to get it to bedroom volumes.

Alright.. No test playing a thunderverb until next weekend.. Which will be exciting.

Buuut.. AD30 is probably more where I'm leaning now. I tried a LOT of 100W tube heads and they are seriously just too powerful to be practical. Why isn't 50W the standard size, seriously. I never got the Dual rectifier, ENGL powerball, or Krankenstein past 3 on the volume.. Which was blowing my head off and had poor tones because it didn't have enough power.

The guy recommended the AD30, the 2channel one and it seems perfect. It didn't quite go over the edge for the metal sound I'm after, but maybe the EMGs will push it far enough. Even this one didn't go past 5 without being way too loud for the shop, but it had the sweet tube sound 'cos it wasn't underpowered. And at $3000AUD for the head and 240W 4x12 It's QUITE a bit cheaper than all the others.

Now I have 2 questions.. 1) What does the wattage of a cab change? I never got why you only have a 30w head but 240w cab.. Anyone?

2) If the EMGs won't help give it the sound I want (It was REALLY close with a stock Gibson explorer but just lacking a tiny bit) would it be better to get a distortion pedal, or an overdrive pedal? I don't really know the difference that much, but I guess the overdrive would push it a bit further and keep the tone of the amp better? And the distortion will just fuzz it up more?

C'mon Orange owners.. Help out your soon to be stable mate..

I would answer your first question...but I have a strange feeling that it's absoultley off :P:

About your second question...I wouldn't suggest getting a distortion pedal...honestly, what's the point of getting a tube amp if you're getting a distortion pedal? =\.

What kind of tone are you looking for?

Metalcore like Death metal influenced. Think Black Dahlia Murder, I killed the prom queen, Parkway Drive, AsILayDying..

I was leaning more towards an OD pedal if it doesn't quite get to the sound I wanted.

EDIT: What do you mean about the first question being way off?

^Bleh, about the cabs and all. I'm not too much of an expert at that. Just leave it until tomorrow though.

Anyway, yeah! You can always get a metal muff and try it out with it.

I haven't had time to play too much with my settings because...

A) I suck at EQ-ing
B) I Haven't really cranked it (But I can give you my EQ settings for low volumes)
C) I suck at EQ-ing

My settings are generally Slash style (That false_god presented to me).

Treble - 4-5
Mids - 7-9
Bass - 8-9

And I turn up my gain all the way...considering no overdrive at the time...actually, is that right? The more you crank the tube amp--the more overdrive or disortion or whatever you call it increases?

Cheers.

*BUMP*

Hey everyone, I just visited the orange forums (I don't think they like me ) And they seem to have alot of Ad30 vs Rocker 30's vx Rockerverb 30's.

Evidently, they all have a significant difference between all of them...pretty interesting, but @#$#@ pricey!

Anyway, they said taht the rocker 30 combo's don't work well with pedals...is that true? They said it was one sided to the tone rather being all around with tone and pedals. *shrugs*

Also, one person said somethinga bout putting a blanket over your amp so you'll be able to crank it in living room volumes? Anyone tried it? I'mma try right now.

The blanket thing should work to make it quieter but won't it muffle the sound and defeat the whole purpose of the excercise?

Haha sweet. You can go past 4 now?

This is becoming my favourite thread. I can't wait to be an elitist with my orange amp.

omg dude...

I've (stupidly) mistaken the dashes for the wrong numbers...

The real volume that I couldn't resist was 3...I was actually on 4 when the blanket was on...I think . !!! I actually thought the dials were similar to a clock...amps that go to 12 FTW!

Anyway, I took off the blanket and realized how much the blanket method fails...it sounds so much better without it .
