Neurosis
I know they have a thread...but this is new enough for a new one.
http://www.myspace.com/officialneurosis New song listen to it. It's heavier, much heavier than previous two albums. They've gone back to being a sludge band again, and this is some of the best shit they've ever put out IMHO.

they are way underrated... to my ears mastodon is just a neurosis rip-off. They deserve more respect!

^^I see where youre coming from, but I wouldnt say Mastodon arent a Neurosis rip off, although they have quite a similar style. I'd say that Mastodon are more 'moshable' while Neurosis are more atmospheric and doomy. Mastodon sound more like the band Lightning Bolt to me than Neurosis.

The vocals are really weird but I love them. It's all so trippy.

Do they have anything else thats like Eye Of Every Storm? I got that first and fell in love with it. Picked up Souls At Zero and Through Silver In Blood more recently but haven't gotten that into them yet. The title track off Souls is creepy/trippy as fukk.
The new song was pretty cool too although I'm still more a fan of their lighter material.

Yes, get A Sun that Never Sets. And to whoever claimed Neurois to have been hardcore punk, that is incorrect. They invented the genre sludge. They were a sludge band up until A Sun that Never Sets and The Eye of Every Storm, and now, they have returned to being a sludge band again with their new album(to be released) Given to the Rising.

I'll check it out. What genre would you call those 2 albums? I guess post-metal since it's sort of in the vein of Isis and such.

They didn't invent sludge. At least not the kind of sludge I'm thinking about. |

Neurosis invented sludge. PERIOD. ![]() Yes, A Sun that Never Sets and the Eye of Every Storm would be called post metal.

Wrong, the first album and Demos were very much of the Hardcore/Crossover Thrash ilk. It wasn't until Souls at Zero did they begin branching out. They did not create sludge either. However they can lay claim to truly pushing the Post-Hardcore/Atmospheric Hardcore genre further, as well as being one of the few bands that isn't contained to title given to people such as myself. To be honest I've always had touble calling the band metal. Regarding the new track, I can apreciate the heavier sound, but I am not to big on the production for the moment.

This new song is decent, though the lack of atmosphere kinda saddens me.

^ How is the crossover stuff Mike? Sounds kind of interesting. Not really related but I love C.O.C's crossover material. I wish they would play a song or 2 live, Vote with A Bullet was the closest thing I got.
