Help deciding on a new guitar

Hi, I need help deciding on a guitar.

I'm looking between a Standard mexican tele or a sunburst Epiphone Casino. I play Rythm guitar in my band through an Orange CR120c, I'm looking for a warm clean tone. The type of music we write and play is a mixture of Arctic Monkeys, Libertines, Kooks and Oasis. If anyone is familiar with Arctic Monkeys, there is a specific tone i'm looking for, it's the Rythm guitar at the start of Settle for a Draw. To me it sounds like a tele. I could do with some help in choosing which Guitar would be best for me as I would also like to have capability to play heavier more distorted sounds but I already have a Strat for that. It just doesn't seem to be warm enough for the clean tone I want.

If anyone could help it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks

EDIT: I forgot to add I went to the shop and played both through the same Orange amp I use and I also played them through a Vox ac30vr. I still couldn't decided. The tele seems to be a more full warm sound than the casino but still can't decide.

I'm no help, but would like to hear peoples recommendation. I don't really think of a tele as warm, more as bright an sharp; if that makes sense...

That's intresting because when I played one it sounded warm and thick, The opposite to your thoughts really. Either way it's a nice tone haha

I think there is a breakdown of terminology here. I'd think that the Casino would be much warmer than the Tele.

i would say to go with something with humbuckers for your second guitar. both are important to have. i am not sure if you would be best served by a semi-hollow for a second guitar.

teles are bright and twangy, not warm.

i think that it is important to have a variety.

I play in a band also and we do a few arctic monkeys covers. Id highly recommend saving up an extra 100 or so and getting a fender baja telecaster. Its made in mexico but was much better than the standard than i tried. It also has the 4 way tele switch which would allow you to have a humbucker like tone in the 4th postion. I have also played the epiphone casino and wasn't overally impressed with it, if you want a semi hollow id have a look at the gretsch electomatic range or maybe a fender corando or starcaster. Best of luck finding your guitar.

+1 baja's are nice. HWY1's are pretty cheap used and are better than standard MIM's.

i still say to go with something with humbuckers

The 2 guitars are apples and oranges. If you are window shopping off the web I suggest getting out of the house and going to music stores and play every guitar you can get your paws on. You just might find a guitar that fills your needs that is not in an online catalog.

Cheers people, When I played the Casino it felt a little thin sounding, where as the tele felt full and bright.

i don't know if this is just my head making things up, but when i got my SGC semi, it had .09"s on it, it sounded good, but i prefer thicker strings. so i threw .12"s on. it awakened. louder, fatter, more round, just better.

the .09"s were fresh when i got it, and were not corroded or dull, so its not like it had old strings.

that could be a variable.

also if you are looking into semi's i would look at the ibanez art core. i have played a few that were pretty nice.

my Sublime Chieftain (SCG) is absolutely a brilliant guitar, you probably won't find one because they are not many around, but if there is one around, i would check it out.

Thanks. I didn't think that sounded like a tele. It sounded more like low output humbuckers. But I could well be wrong, it's pretty difficult to determine for sure what gear was used on a recording just by listening to it (or else I'm just terrible at it ).

Now I listen to it again it might be a tele on the middle (or maybe neck) position. So I'm not sure, basically.

+1 on Bajas being great

Played a lot of Teles when I was looking for the one and the Baja consistently delivered. Wouldn't say the 4th position is very humbucker-like, though.

Worth mentioning the Baja has the same pups as the American Standard iirc which is some nice stuff.

All that being said, the brass saddles help but I don't think "warm" in the same sentence as my Tele, to be honest.
