Expensive Amps

With the availability of reasonably priced high quality modelers, is there really a reason to spend big $ on a high quality tube amp for general practicing and gigging? Really, the only reason I can think to buy a really good tube amp is for recording purposes. Seems to me, for 95% of what most need an amp for, a good solid state with a quality speaker and a POD HD would cover it. What am I missing?

For practicing, absolutely not*. For gigging and recording, your call.

*Didn't stop me, though.

Why wouldn't there be?

Being able to use an awesome amp for anything is awesome. Why spend over $2000 on a high quality modeller like an Axe FX when in reality is all you want is the tone of a Mesa Mark V? At that price, you may as well just get an actual Mark V.

It really depends on what kind of money you're talking about here. What counts as being reasonably priced?

Why?
