Ok...just got me baby yesterday and began playing around with it a little. The manual freaked the hell outta me but once i got this thing in my hands it seemed very simple really. The first thing i kinda have a problem with is this : One my first custom patch, i need delay on both chanels but once i switch one A, B shuts down...i have no clue what to do.

Also i still can understand how to check if i m clipping the "8" with my input...

Okay...first question...

More than likely, the delay is turning off because there is a preset assign on that patch. Since all of the patches in every bank have some sort of preset from the factory, nearly all of them have an assign to turn on or off different effects whenever you switch from amp channel a to b within a given patch. Press the assign button and clear all of them out.

Second question. Go into your input meter (if you don't know how to get to the meters, feel free to ask). Now, with your volume and tone controls maxed, switch to your neck pickup and play a palm muted E major chord (mainly concentrating on your lower 4 strings). This should actually be one of the "loudest" things you can play. You don't really have to hammer down with the pick to get a good signal. Watch the meter as you play the chord. You have a given number of display elements that can possibly be lit up...just make sure the last 2 or 3 don't light up. If they do, you need to go into the system menu and turn down your input volume.

Make sense? If not, feel free to ask.

Ok i will check to see what i can do with the assigns because it really buged me...

Now the second...It doesn't quite pass the 60% mark. There are like 5-6 blocks left to go. How much do i need to add approximately?? +2 db? +1 db??

By the way, it sounds fantastic when played through a PA. I thought i was a rock star yesterday...haha...and ACTUALLY i was using some of the factory patches i found interesting.

Don't add anything, leave it right where it is. If you have volume issues, turn up your levels at the PA or with the volume knob on the back of the GT-8 (but not much - the knob should be anywhere from 50% - 75%, no more).

If you want crazy, try setting the delay for infinite repeats and putting the auto riff behind that. Now set the auto riff phrase control to the expression pedal. Hit one note and start making car alarm sounds. Lots of fun.

I loved the patch with the wrap delay that was controled by the CTR pedal...Great for a start of a song...Very unique effect!

Try out bank 84, patch 1 - "Speaker Killer". Lots of fun there too.

Is the GT-8 for me...?

Okay, I have a big gig, almost make or break gig for my band coming up in October, and I want to have the best sound possible for it. At the moment I have my custom build SG and a Fat Strat (stock).
For sound I either use my Vox AD50VT or Pod 2.0.

Thing is, I find the Vox quite sterile and not responsive enough for my tastes, and the Pod 2.0 just sounds way too digital on the overdrive settings.
So I'm looking into new things and the GT-8 seems to be good.

Now to questions:
1. Is the GT-8 better/more realistic than the Vox and POD?
2. Would it sound better going straight into the PA?
3. Is it worth the price?
4. Is the GT-8 for me?

I am by no means a tone/tube snob but I would like a better tone.
Btw I play alternative, punky stuff, eg AFI, Taking Back Sunday, Gallows, Biffy Clyro.

Ok...i can answer concerning the PA...IT'S A BEAST!!! I've had it for a week now...and i have played 2-3 gigs in a rather large hall. The first time i took it there, i had tweaked it @ my house for like 2-3 hours...and i had a decent clean tone with some chorus and a good distortion. Once the cable from the splitter box when into the output...oh man...i got shivers down my spine! IT sounded so rich and full, that i cant express with words. IN A NUTSHELL, as a rule...the "8" USUALLY sounds way better on stage through a PA than it will sound in your room.

Oh, and i can tell you that i had a dellema on whether to buy the Pod Xt Live or the "8"...Two of my friends have the LIVE...and it sounds very very digital. I don't know about the VOX tonelab...but nevertheless the "8" i think can give ya more than youll ever ask...It's more-or-less one step before geting your own "effects-refregirator".

It's a great unit, but if this is a make or break gig, I would have to vote against it. I would put whatever money you have towards renting a decent Marshall or Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Concentrate on some core tones without too many effects. If you can secure a few hours of dial in time with the venue, then you might be able to dial in your POD to work through the PA, but you need to make sure you can get that time. Don't show up blind because there's the possibility that your patches will sound completely different through the PA. Check with the venue manager and see if you can secure around 3 hours of dial in and sound check time some time during the week (at least 2 days before the show).

What is the signal path inside of the GT-8 with that patch?

Try both. It really depends on what you're looking for. The Tonelab gives you ease of access, but the tones are not really that complex...kinda cardboardy to my. The GT-8 has tons of dimension to it (especially when you start doing stuff like multi-tap delays and dual chorus/flanger effects...easily gets you into Edge land or Robert Fripp stuff), but the learning curve is very very steep. You'll have to wrap you head around the GT-8 and really learn it in and out.
