Oh, this guy... I'm pretty sure that he doesn't take seriously 90% of stuff that he's saying. Actually most Russians don't take him seriously too.

Sad thing though that I still had to vote for that guy during the last parliament's election cause the alternatives were Putin's party, communists party and those guys that won't reach 5% barrier anyway.

Those guys are not much better, so I've decided not to take chances. Participation in Russian elections is mostly symbolic anyway.

Maybe you've heard about political rallies against the elections spoofing that took place in Russia during the previous winter. Funny fact is that none of the political parties that supposedly lost seats due to the spoofing took part in those rallies. Those guys don't want to win.

Though if there would be a decent political party at the next elections I'll vote for them even if they'll be doomed to fail.

I recall the time when he said that Russia will shift earth's axis to punish America for Iraq invasion. Really, the guy is a joke, yet he managed to stay in politics as a leader of popular political party since 1990.

Surprisingly there are some talented individuals that beat him in the stupidity contest. One of them, being the member of Putin's party "United Russia" and member of the parliament said that most of his colleagues are controlled by United States, as well Russian mass-media. So it is actually Putin who suffers from lack of media freedom in Russia.

also i saw in the news the other day that some anti-crime campaign group claimed that community service orders weren't working because some really high percentage of prisoners had previously had one. I facepalmed a lot, it reminded me of the whole "marijuana should be banned because 99% of heroin users start on marijuana" silly argument.

Now- they may well not be working, but if they're not, that statistic tells you jack shit. what you need is how many people with community service orders go on to be imprisoned.

gah.

EDIT: plus it's even more silly than that... for the drugs one, they conveniently never extend that line of thinking to alcohol. ditto with imprisoning, I could claim that letting people be free before committing a crime doesn't work because 100% of prisoners were previously free.

Oh ok. Yeah, that stuff is criminal. They did a study on it and basically if you hire those on workfare, you get the same worker-hours but you only have to pay them about 1/3 of what you normally have to, because they only get the equivalent of a welfare check as salary.

EDIT: I forgot which field of work they were looking at, I could've sworn it was transit authority of some city or the other though.
