I didn't acknowledge that post because I didn't see the picture because for some reason my browser doesn't display images from facebook on this site (and I can't be bothered fixing that).

I ignore chairs all the time. I didn't realise that was a problem.

Admittedly, shouting at a chair probably isn't the best idea. Just ask clint eastwood.

Ya. She makes a great point about the legal terms and language use.

My respect for Louise Mensch just skyrocketed. (She's the author, if you didn't see.)

Yep. It's madness. I'm hearing a lot of people here claim that they pay astronomical costs for childcare services as it is, which of course may be true, that however doesn't mean that the staff are seeing the benefit of that money. Also, most of those people are lying, Ireland has one of the lower spends in OECD for early childhood care.

I remember a similar thing happening when it emerged that some hospitals were filthy, those being the ones cleaned by agency staff earning minimum wage.

^ yeah. plus i mean for a lot of people teachers are cheap/free childcare. if we didn't have free education how much would you be paying for that childcare on the open market? and that's before you even consider how much it'd cost to pay for the education as well.

Not really. The terms exist to describe a specific act/situation. So Child Porn is still child porn, even though the act on tape is by definition rape, because the person viewing the image/video is not actually raping the person on tape.

Similarly, there's a specific meaning to forced marriage and prostitution even though by they will both involve rape. The use of them in the report is to give context to the issues. It's pointless going around saying 'the girls were raped by everyone and that's it'. Using the phrase 'forced to work as a prostitute' gives detail to the overall scheme.

The only real point she has is that the system doesn't take it seriously enough when these cases are brought to trial and convictions are obtained.
