Blah Song - Rock (GP5, midi)
Well it's more of an untitled song but whatever... Anywho, it's the first song I've ever made and I have 0 experience with drums so any help there would be cool. Overall, any help / constructive criticism would be awesome.
Yes the "pick pattern" of the rhythm is repeated throughout the song but I don't know what else to do with it. C4C Last edited by interactivebios : 07-15-2007 at 02:49 AM. |

first of all, i dont think this was a "blah song" hardly at all. it reminds me of some lynyrd skynyrd. (dont bash me on the name if you actually know how to spell it) it sounded good and your lyrics especially stuck out too me. they were very original.
but the rhythm part sounded fine. the only person thats actually hurting is the rhythm guitarist. the lead parts at measures 9-11 sounded great. they were very simple but created a feel that was awesome. the syncopation on the high e string during the chords sounds pretty cool too. though the break sounded good, i think it made too much of a change from the regular rhythm that was going. the vocals fit the piece really well, btw. the lead at measures 45-47 was well written with the 0-2 and 2-0-2 on the high e string. sorry, i dont know how else to describe it without numbers. i think you need to add to the solo. though, it was slow, it seemed to have some good momentum and a good easy listening sound. the outro really brought everything together, but i personally think you should end the song with strummed E chord at measure 105. thats where i felt it had closure there, but then it started up again. but that being said, it still ended well at 109.this song would be an awesome record closer btw. no matter what the first 10 or so songs were, this would definately bring it all together. btw, thanks for critting mine. |

Some good advice from the poster above. It's a good song (intro with the lead guitar does remind me a little of Skynyrd) and you seem to have expanded on your ideas well - something I struggle with. I thought perhaps it was maybe a verse too long (replace one with the solo) but as an album ender that length would be feasible.
The drums were fine. It's hard to program a nice drum track as the best parts are based on how the drummer is feeling/reacting to the song. Try putting a fill between verses and choruses etc. Just a simple 16th run down the toms would do fine for this sort of song. Maybe also have a slightly less busy beat in the verses. And a quick note - I'd put the rhythm guitar on the blues #1 setting in the clean part - but that's just personal preference. Last edited by pEdAl2 : 07-15-2007 at 12:32 PM. |

i liked it, even thou i heard it just in the MIDI.
the solo was fine, not too great and impresive, but still, fits the song. the drums are fine, and so the bass. the onl thing i had problem with is the last chord at the end of the song, it just didnt fit, atleast in my opinion. thats all i have to say, overall, 8.5/10.

It is a realy good song.
But i think it sounds so damn familiar to some metallica song, but i couldnt find which one. It felt like a rip of, anyone else heard that? Its probebly just the same progression or something. Now, the song is going over the same progression over the whole song, not only that, but the same 4 bars just reapet. that gets realy boring. And i agree that you use to many verses/choruses. or, not that you use to many, but that they all come in a row, try to break them up with some new riffs in between. Solo is ok i guese, but it is a little boring couse its the same progression as everything else. But i have to disagree with the others about that ending chord, i though it was nice and interesting. Wait a minute, have you changed the ending without telling? it already ends on a E chord. With the lead bending to a G#. Crit my latest?! (in sig)

What scale do I use to add onto the guitar solo? And every time the rhythm switches to a different chord does the scale change too? And how do you know what scale you're supposed to use by looking @ the chord progression (do you just "feel it" or is there a formula)?
Anywho thanks for the crits |
