There's a boot of the whole Dylan/Cash session, about 20 songs. It's loose but it's good.

If you really want to check out Dylan's singing listen "Tomorrow is a Long Time", "Sara", "Don't Think Twice it's Alright", "To Ramona", anything of his romantic work. He isn't so angry so it actually shows his singing ability. Be it his sound will always be a bit rough since his voice was pemanently damage when he got gravely sick early in his career.
His Nashville Skyline stuff has pretty good singing as well. "Tonight I Will Be Staying Here With You" is awesome. His duet with Cash on "Girl From North Country" Would be awesome but it is difficult for anyone but June to duet with Johnny's awesomeness.

Hes singing is something you have to like cause his voice is defininantly not conventionally good. He hits notes perfectly and sings technically well but if u dont like his voice then theres not much to say.

It's not the most beautiful voice, but it fits well with the music. When I listen to Folk, you listen to the message behind the lyrics more than anything else.

Get Highway 61 Revisited or Blonde On Blonde. They are generally considered his best. |

You might want to get Highway 61 Revisited as it has less songs. I don't really know what you're into, but that one's more bluesy than Blonde On Blonde. |

I will ask the same question here that I did in the Dylan group. Is Bob Dylan the greatest solo artist ever? I'd argue he is. He's undoubtly Top 3. He's had a long career and he's still releasing fantastic stuff (Modern Times was amazing, IMO). So, thoughts?

Tough question, but I'd say so. Johnny Cash had a similar career in terms of longevity and quality through the years, but I'd put Dylan ahead of him. For his never settling down, and always doing things his way even now. He's maintained the Dylan personality, and he always will. I agree about Modern Times, by the way. Incredible album.

sí! i heard it on a flight for the first time, and was really blown away. awesome lyrics, he does sound old though (im used to the pre-75 stuff mostly and own the rolling thunder revue, highway 61, blood on the tracks, and 1966 live) but nonetheless - great! what do ya guys recommend i get as a next album? i was thinkin the 1964 bootleg series and modern times...i heard most of blonde on blonde and desire from the live albums...so, i dunno

1964 Bootleg Series is one of the weaker ones (in as much as Dylan can be "weak"). Modern Times is great, but not as good in my view as his record from 2001, Love & Theft.
Get Blonde on Blonde, Love & Theft, Bringing it all Back Home first. Then The Freewheelin', John Wesley Harding and Desire. |

One thing about bob dylan is that although he gets some stick from the tone of his voice (puttin it nicely), hes never out of tune at all, an he can get any note.
