The ONLY Collaboration Thread

Welcome to the only Collaboration Thread!

Please use this thread to find users you can work with on either your lyrical or instrumental pieces.

Do not post your works here. Posts of this content will be deleted. You can refer people to listen to your music in the R&R forum or approved outside links (Such as myspace). To your posted lyrics, please refer to the main S&L forum.

You can also offer your help in your area of expertise, such as genres.

Do not ask for ideas to improve your creation, this thread is for the purpose of advancing an already finished piece to the next level.

Do not offer help to people who did not request it.

Quote:

NOTE: All material presented here is copyrighted to its creator. The collaboration will take place under those conditions and with a mutual agreement between the users involved. The finished article is still the product of both its authors.

Let’s hope this thread will advance the collaboration between users on UG and further its goal: joint creation in our community.

first off: we have a ****ing new subforum?!? hell, I figured someone would have mentioned that hell had frozen over...

Second: I have a question about collaboration in this thread, and please tell me if I should post it otherwise and I will promptly delete this and do so.

But can the collaborations have nothing to do with music such as poetry collaborations? or is it against the rules of this thread to set those up via this thread?

I am under the assumption that "lyrical" is an all inclusive term but this question is just to clarify.

I'll leave this for now Dylan, although we might delete this later, just to help user get started.

This is for you and all other users to use in order to advance your works. It was only the obvious suggestion to do lyrics+music.
Plus this is a new forum, so we are trying things out too.
The only thing that can't come here is help with an unfinished piece. We already have a forum for that. If you want to write a dialog piece or a collaborated piece of work from scratch, this is a good place as any to look for people to do it with. Just specify who and what you're looking for, much like our own S&L personals. Just no questions or asking for other people to better your work by doing it for you.

Hope that helped everyone.

Alright lets see if this will work.

I've just started recording some of my more accessible pieces. This piece is one I am struggling with. If anyone has any suggestions as to a nice acoustic riff/arpeggio, preferably picking maybe even with a small progression thrown in to break it up a bit.

It is at your mercy.

I wanna get a slow, solemn feel to it. I do have an intro.

Code:
e-----0-2-3-7------8-7---8-7-8-------------------------- b---4--------------------------5-7-8--7------------ g-5-------------------------------------7--9/5-------- d---------------------------------------------------------

That's repeated twice. If you wanna incorporate that do so. If you wish to start from scratch feel free. It's all yours.

Oh yeah if you wanna rearrange the lines too you're more than welcome.

right. I have all the ideas. I split it up kind of like first three lines as a loose verse, semi-awkward change for the 4th line, next three as a loose verse, semi-awkward riff thing again for the next line, then i was thinking we could throw in a little, mildly dissonant solo thing with your intro in as a break here. Then there is a change up progression for the rest of the first "stanza" and it goes into a big melodic progression for the last 2 lines. The ending is my favorite part. (it actually is very similar to the ending to something i wrote a while ago- but mine was "the difference is within things above and below boundaries like the world I knew yesterday." )

The first progression is kind of melodic, slightly minor in tone, then the little riff fits in, then it goes back to the progression then a variation of the riff, then the arpeggio thing could be played with and put here as a solo, then the next progression is fairly melodic and it ends midway through the third time and goes into the big melodic outro thing for the ending

I've never done anything structured like this before so the transition between sections is almost awkward in key changing but it kinda fits with what i see in the piece itself. Hopefully you'll like it. should i tab it out and post here?

Yeah go for it man. If you wanna have a crack at recording it too, that should give me an indication as to your timing. It sounds awesome and I'm interested to see what you've done with it.

I'll just post this here:

any song that I've posted on this board has never had any music to it, nor too much of a melody in my head.

So if anyone wants a go at trying to make one into an actual song, feel free to reply to me. I'd love to hear one of them to music, as I don't have the skills or equipment to do it myself.

Loom in y profile and click "all threads by this user" or something similar, I'd say 70% of my threads in S+L are songs. Most would have an Arctic Monkey's/ Indie/ Britrock sound to them, or that's how they were written.

anyway, let me know if anyone out there wants to do something with them.

Jamie, listen to the songs on my profile. If you like that style of things, and my voice more specifically, I'd be quite happy to put a bit of music around one of your songs and send it back to you. It would only be for the purpose of myn and your personal enjoyment though, because if it sounds any good i'd want to change the words and keep the music

Right. Here is the basic tab. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. This is your song so it's totally up to you if you use 1 note of it. It's really like nothing i've ever done before and probably like nothing you've ever heard... Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. As far as recording it, I'm at a loss for means to do that at the moment. I'm gonna be gone from friday night till sunday night so I probably won't be on here much if at all. I might make a vid later if necessary (i'm not sure if i have a cable to get it on the internet though if i do). We can work it out though.

Enjoy?

Code:
Sorry if it’s more progression based than you intended. To play these chords I fingered the frets on the D-B strings then brought my thumb over to play the bass note. The bass note is optional but it sounds good. Strum Strum Strum Strum e|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- B|--0----------3----------3----------1--------------------- G|--5----------4----------2----------2--------------------- D|--7----------5----------4----------3--------------------- A|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- E|--5----------3----------2----------1--------------------- In the melody I had in mind downcast starts just after the first chord, then crestfallen is on the first strum of the second then the chords change on the “stal” of pedestal and the “duc” in introducing Down… Crest… Pedestal… introducing… Strum Strum Strum Strum e|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- B|--0----------3----------3----------1--------------------- G|--5----------4----------2----------2--------------------- D|--7----------5----------4----------3--------------------- A|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- E|--5----------3----------2----------1--------------------- Grey meet grey is so that “meet grey” is on the last 2 chords G… M… G… Hold e|--0----------------7--7---------------------------------- B|--0----------------8--7---------------------------------- G|--5----------5-7/9-9--7---------------------------------- D|--7------5/7----------9---------------------------------- A|--------------------------------------------------------- E|--------------------------------------------------------- (I think a heartbeat bass/bass- . drum thing would sound tight here . (I thought it sounded good to repeat “the death of a soul”) In… that… -ators… the Death… the death… Strum Strum Strum Strum e|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- B|--0----------3----------3----------1--------------------- G|--5----------4----------2----------2--------------------- D|--7----------5----------4----------3--------------------- A|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- E|--5----------3----------2----------1--------------------- Bound by a spine played on the descending notes up to the chord B…b…a…S…Hold e|--0--------------------3--------------------------------- B|--0--------------------3--------------------------------- G|--5----------5-7/9-7-5-4--------------------------------- D|--7------5/7-----------5--------------------------------- A|--------------------------------------------------------- E|--------------------------------------------------------- (I think a heartbeat bass/bass- . drum thing would sound tight here . Actually, the original progression with the filled in high string would work as a transition here. Then jump into the next part. Strum Strum Strum Strum 2x e|--5----------3----------2----------1--------------------- B|--5----------3----------3----------1--------------------- G|--5----------4----------2----------2--------------------- D|--7----------5----------4----------3--------------------- A|--0----------0----------0----------0--------------------- E|--5----------3----------2----------1--------------------- This is the next prog. Written out so its easier to visualize. I’ll write how the lyrics fit in below. Strum strum strum strum strum strum strum strum e|--0-----4-----------5-----2-----2-----5-----0---------- B|--0-----5-----7-----5-----3-----2-----5-----0---------- G|--2-----6-----7-----6-----4-----2-----6-----1---------- D|--4-----6-----7-----7-----4-----4-----7-----2---------- A|--4-----4-----5-----7-----2-----4-----7-----2---------- E|--------------------5-----------2-----5-----0---------- Repeat more during the Am chord before moving on to “than” These… Pages… Neglecting… More… Defining… e|--0----------4---------------------5----------2---------- B|--0----------5----------7----------5----------3---------- G|--2----------6----------7----------6----------4---------- D|--4----------6----------7----------7----------4---------- A|--4----------4----------5----------7----------2---------- E|-----------------------------------5--------------------- Separation… Two… Metronome… e|--2----------5----------0---------- B|--2----------5----------0---------- G|--2----------6----------1---------- D|--4----------7----------2---------- A|--4----------7----------2---------- E|--2----------5----------0---------- Here the singing and strumming rests after the second mouth, then kicks in for mono then rests after moment. On Moment, you can play 1 heavy stroke then one upwards sweeping strum and hold that out Mouth…Mouth… Mono… Moment… e|--0----------4---------------------5---------- B|--0----------5----------7----------5---------- G|--2----------6----------7----------6---------- D|--4----------6----------7----------7---------- A|--4----------4----------5----------7---------- E|-----------------------------------5---------- Then that section is repeated with the same strumming as above Here, I wanted to repeat this part but I thought it would sound better if something changed so I’ve been using love part love, but that can be substituted with any word you think better fits if you decide to keep it at all. Love… Love… Mono… Moment… e|--0----------4---------------------5---------- B|--0----------5----------7----------5---------- G|--2----------6----------7----------6---------- D|--4----------6----------7----------7---------- A|--4----------4----------5----------7---------- E|-----------------------------------5---------- Then, slowly, play each of these chords once then lead right into the next part with the same distance between the second here and the first of the next part as there was between these two. e|--0----------4----- B|--0----------5----- G|--2----------6----- D|--4----------6----- A|--4----------4----- E|------------------- Outro: (Note: the A string can be played open and for a fill you can add your pinky on the high e string playing 12 and 10. I like playing 12 for the first 3 and 10 on the last G.) The first time play each once with the same distance between as in the last 2 chords with a little extra time after the last. Then the second time start strumming softly and build it up as you repeat. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary before you start singing. I usually go with around 4. e|-- 0-- 0-- 0--0---------------------------------- B|--10--10-- 8--8------------------------------------- G|--11-- 9-- 9--7-------------------------------------- D|--12--11--10--9---------------------------------------- A|------------------------------------------------- E|----------------------------------------------- I repeat “volumes to us all” twice and sometimes three times if you do it over the last chord and into the first. Repeat this at least twice, until it feels right then go on. “That’ll speak” should fit in the first then the chord changes then “volumes to us all” then chord change “(great: I’ll throw great in sometimes )volumes to all” chord change then sometimes “volumes to us all” again That… Vol… Vol… (Vol…) e|-- 0---------- 0---------- 0----------0------------------ B|--10----------10---------- 8----------8------------------ G|--11---------- 9---------- 9----------7------------------ D|--12----------11----------10----------9------------------ A|--------------------------------------------------------- E|--------------------------------------------------------- This part is done much the same but except then the next line is thrown in. Right after within, the chord changes and “the confines of this” then leading into the next time through… That… Vol… Exc… The… of this e|-- 0---------- 0---------- 0----------0------------------ B|--10----------10---------- 8----------8------------------ G|--11---------- 9---------- 9----------7------------------ D|--12----------11----------10----------9------------------ A|--------------------------------------------------------- E|--------------------------------------------------------- Hold the first sound in earth- the oh/aw/ah sound. Don’t just hold it though. Play around with some orgasmic vocal harmony here. Repeat this as many times as you like then you can play just the chord without the singing (if you want) but it ends with playing the first chord of the progression (the D9) once. Eaaaaaaaaaaaaarth ohhhhhhhhhhh (yeah) e|-- 0---------- 0---------- 0----------0------------------ B|--10----------10---------- 8----------8------------------ G|--11---------- 9---------- 9----------7------------------ D|--12----------11----------10----------9------------------ A|--------------------------------------------------------- E|---------------------------------------------------------

Right on. Any questions on how I play it or melodies/timing are welcome. I'll do my best to explain what I had in mind.

Cool piece, man
