ISIS vs The World

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/18/asia/....html?sr=cnnitw

Despite attempts to stop them, ISIS is gaining territory. Should the world be doing more than they are to stop these medieval jerks from manhandling the Middle East and potentially wreaking havoc on the western world in the future?

Exactly. The question of 'how much is too much' when it comes to unrestricted warfare is hard to get around. Especially when you're the power with the bombs that can level entire cities and leave them uninhabitable for decades.

Real talk. Just relax. Where ISIS has temporarily gained, along sectarian lines mind you, they've also lost areas such as Kobane, and haven't come close to penetrating Baghdad

What more can we really do? Nuke the entire middle east?

The U.S. has been at war in the middle east for almost 20 years now. Think about that, 20 years. What has really changed?

dabbling for a lot longer than that too.

This is a complicated subject; on one hand i feel we(the usa) should just let them (the middle eastern countries) figure it out for themselves and on the other i think we need to stop it, but every time there is some crazy jazz coming from that part of the world and we try to stop it, we may"stop" it but it seems like every time something worse takes its place. and to ad to the insanity of middle east affairs, the human cost of soldiers and innocent civilian life is huge, and seemingly has had no long term benefits.

these conversations are always interesting until someone gets all dumb and says something racist or along the lines of ''bomb the **** outta'em" cos that's stupid ppl so lets keep this intelligent ppl pls

70 miles away isn't exactly that far off. I believe ISIS can capture the capital.

This conflict can end one of a few ways. We attempt to "bomb them into submission" with high explosives and incendiary bombs (won't work, tried this on Japan in WWII), we can nuke them, making the U.S. super evil (this did work on Japan in WWII but it was to avoid estimated invasion casualties upwards of 1 million) opening up the possibility of World War III, or we can invade Iraq a third time and throw a bunch of U.S. lives away in the name of trading one terrible terrorist organization for another. We also have the option of letting the conflict continue until Iraq is completely taken over and a new country is born, and then invading against an army that's better prepared for us. That's probably the worst thing we can do strategically. It will be more "justifiable" in the eyes of the public to start fighting at that point, because we tried not getting involved much, but it will allow for higher casualties.

All of these options suck. It's up to our government to choose which is the least worst.

Still don't know why they don't strafe a few A10s up the roads when they have victory parades a mile long.

If they wanted Baghdad (as a short term goal) they would have done it last year when they had the chance. They've lost a bunch of territory in Iraq. The new territory they've "gained" is from other groups pledging allegiance to them. Which is a bad thing because the solution even more complicated now.

what can I as an individual do to stop the spread of ISIS's power, other than not joining them?

(also I was about to name my hamster isis and I'm so glad I didn't now, but it is a shame that no one can really use that as a name atm)
