Artist Pickup Thread

Well, seeing as the "Artist Gear Thread" is here, I thought I'd finally post my Artist- Pickup list I wrote awhile back and never got around to posting it anywhere other then Site Feedback.
If you mods think this should be added to the Artist Gear Thread and made into a giant sticky that works too.

DON'T EXPECT TO GET X'S EXACT TONE UNLESS YOU USE THE SAME TYPE OF GUITAR AND THE SAME AMP AND THE SAME EFFECTS!!!! CORRECT PICKUPS ARE ONLY A SMALL PART OF THEIR SOUND!

Nice

Pickups are definitely harder to find out about than gear. Btw, you have Slash under "V".

Thanks. Not to hard, all the big pickup brands have lists of their artists, and I have a nice handy Dimarzio catalog with a full list of Dimarzio artists- pickup.

This just reminded me of how much I need new pickups. Pickups from '84 aren't too shabby, but I could do better. After I get my AC30 for Christmas, I'm spending on a slide from John and some new pickups.

EDIT: Actually, I do know that the Beatles used toaster top pups that came stock in Rickenbackers. That's about all I know .

Wow, well done!

FYI Eric Johnson uses his custom dimarzios in his humbucking guitars, he uses them to get a hollow bodyied style sound, could you please edit the list also Eric clapton uses/used vintage noisless pickups currently and fender lace sensors during the 80s.

congrats!

I might be being picky here but you have Zakk Wylde as EMG 81/80 and its 81/85. I think I saw a few like that....

sweet!

nice selection of 80's guys there too.

george lynch used a duncan distortion in the 80's, didn't he? don't quote me on that, but he's only moved to the screamin' demon reasonably recently, i think.

and wargh! add reb beach, he uses an emg 89, i think? and emg single coils.

I'll look into all of those now.
And perhaps add a disclaimer saying pretty much everyone pre-1970 used stock pickups, because I feel a wave of people coming and saying "What did Keith Richards use?"...

Edit: Updated!

ah, not rob, reb!

you can't be an 80's guitarist with a normal name like rob...

also he used to play in winger. \m/

Seriously though, thanks. that disclaimer is probably a good idea too.

Wow, great list! Thanks a lot!

So I take it it would be nearly impossible to find Fruciante's pups without actually buying a 60s Strat?

That makes me a sad little man.

I spent awhile looking for his, because I know everyone wants his sound, and all he uses is vintage fenders with the orginal vintage pickups. I know Cord makes some pickups which are supposed to be just like the ones from the 50's and 60's, I havn't tried them out but theres lots of people here who have. I would say those might be your best bet. PM CorduroyEW or vist www.rockmonkeyguitars.com. Plus being a UG'er you get a 10% discount.

Yoshiaki Manabe uses a stock Mustang neck pickup and a Duncan JB single coil sized HB in the bridge.
