All their singers have been clean vocalists, in fact.

You guys should really check out How Like a Winter. It's a gothic doom metal band from Italy.

I just got my coppy of Reverend Bizarre's "So Long Suckers", so far its definitively my second favorite Reverend album. It slaughters almost all the albums ive heard thus far in 2007...except for one, and that is Slough Fegs allmighty Hardworlder.

I'm still bloody waiting for my copy, the idiots at Spinefarm felt the need to cancel every order I've sent so far, over the month and a half since it came out.
I may just end up ordering it from Hellride music and put up with the cost of shipping from the US for the sake of knowing I'm actually going to get it.

ok Thanks chylde_of_fire, I was just using the term "Traditional" because a lot people use that term...? I would just call it Doom, or maybe Old-school Doom (if it was old LOL).
So what would be the best to get first, out of the ones you recommended? (As I said heavy Riffs & powerful Vocals are a bonus) Isn't that Solitude band the one that Robert Lowe was in? Thanks |

Rob still is the vocalist for Solitude Aeturnus, as well as joining Candlemass recently. Reverend Bizarre I am sure will be looked back on in ten years time in the same way we look at Candlemass and Saint Vitus these days, so pick up In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend first. Or any release of theirs actually. If you can get hold of a copy (I have no idea if it's still available) Watching from a Distance by Warning should also be near the top of the list. Also, Suffer No Guilt by The Gates of Slumber is a good'un. Saint Vitus meets Manowar! But really, you cannot go wrong with any of those from the list. Whichever one you come across first, go for it.

I just heard my first doom metal song, 'The Cry Of Mankind' by My Dying Bride. I've known all along that doom metal is totally my thing, but having heard some... I am completely blown away by it's awesomeness.

I'm more of a fan of the sludgy side of doom metal.
I'd reccomend Black Shape Of Nexus as a starter. http://www.myspace.com/sadhusonofabitch

Dude, are you flying over for the Pagan Altar show in November in London? You should make the effort (considering it's their first concert in 20 years), there's people coming from as far away as Chilie.

Epicus Doomicus Metalicus. Then get the first 3 with Messiah Marcolin (Nightfall, Ancient Dreams, Tales of Creation), then get the two most recent ones (the final one with Messiah and the new one with Robert Lowe).
