I kind of like Melodeath. Old In Flames is what really got me into it and after that Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom (i dont care what anyone sais, their still mainly melodeath to my ears). Its just that the newer bands now a days all sound the same to me. I want the same qualities of a Melodeath band but with some newer melodies or newer concepts. It just sounds like a lot of them are at least using the same scales to keep coming up with the same sounding melodies. Thats just my opinion though...
Some good newer ones i have found are Kalmah and Wintersun.

Insomnium's Above the Weeping World is a stellar melo death album. Absolutely fantastic.

Mercenary are amazing but they're not so much death metal to me, melodic as hell tho!

To me the only real Melodic death is Gothenburg, In flames, At the gates, Dark Tranquillity, the Haunted, there the real deal. Children of Bodom in more neoclassical death not melodic

^I've never understood why The Haunted are considered Melo-Death...Anything I've heard off of rEVOLVEr or The Dead Eye or whatever the new one is has sounded really -core to me.
That said, everyone here should check out Satariel...I'd post a link, but I'm lazy. :P The album "Hydra" is quite good, though. |

Everyone in this thread phails for not mentioning Disarmonia Mundi.
Besides them, Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity, Arsis, The Absence, At the Gates, Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, Mors Principium Est, and Blood Stain Child (EVERYONE here needs to check them out) all own.

meh, insomnium got old to me with above the weeping world too much of the pedal guitar leads and few riffing... since the day it all came down was masterful down ;X melancholic riffs and the shiznit... uh CoB is power metal with harsh vocals, add speed metal or thrash with their use of powerchords...

I agree. Its awesome, not a single bad track on there. I just got the other two albums before it, and although they are good in there own right, nothing compares to ATWW. The black waltz is a pretty tasty album. And Follow the reaper is great (only heard it yesterday actually).
