What's the cheapest/best deal you can get on a tube amp? I've got a line6 amp currently that has suited my needs for a while, but now that I'm getting a nice Tele with Texas custom shop pickups I really need an amp that's going to let the tone shine through in all its glory.

I know that tube amps are more expensive than solid state but other than that I don't know jack about amps. I'll mostly likely be playing a broad variety of music from classic rock countryish sorta stuff like Lynyrd Skynyrd to punk stuff. (I'll be saving the metal for my ibanez rg).

What should I get?

I take it since you recommended it that it sounds nice. But how loud can it get? Could I use it at, say, a frat party show?

Valvetronix aren't tube amps, they are hybrids. The 30 watter should be loud enough for a small party though. They do sound nice, and have a big variety of sounds.

An AD30VT isn't tube. It's a hybrid.

I'd go for a Valveking 112, you can probably get a used one for 300 something. If that's too much get an Epipnone Valve Junior half stack for $250 and a good OD pedal. I like my jekyll and hyde, but you might prefer something else.

And out of curiosity, how much of a step up are these amps over my Line6 15w 8in. ?

would I have to buy another amp if I started to play small shows somewhere? Will a Tele sound good on a vox or an epiphone?

Just about anything will be a huge step up from a Spider (if that's the Line6 that you have). Either way, a 15w sold state won't get you anywhere as far as playing live goes. An Epi VJ should be just enough power to play a small venue, and for larger places you can always mic it.

To add to that question, what would be the best overdrive/distortion pedal for a Tele (intended to be use for some pretty distorted rock... not just a little country overdrive)

you buy based on your amp, not your guitar. a vast majority of your tone comes from your amp. yes, your rg and your tele will sound different through the same amp, but it's the amp that you need to push, not your guitar. although you're looking for rock with your tele, if you want metal out of your ibanez you're gonna need an amp that can do both (or pedals if you really want, but i'd suggest working on getting a nice amp that'll do basically all that you need and using pedals to complete your sound where needed).

basically, look for a good amp first that suits what you need. then decide where it's lacking (if it is), and get an od or a distortion pedal or whatnot respectively.

I have an Epi VJ combo that I like a lot. The one issue I have with it is the small crappy speaker.

You might wanna take a look at the Crate Palomino V8. More controls and has a bigger speaker.

Or you could get the Epi VJ head and get one of those cheapy Drive cabinets

Definitely an Epiphone Valve Junior, though don't be fooled by the 5 watt rating, it's 5 watts class A and it's incredibly loud. At full volume it gets some serious drive, but it's definitely not bedroom level volume. Have to agree with a previous post that you'd need a good overdrive pedal. I got my 100 watt Carvin tube amp for 175$ at a pawn shop, might be worth checking some local shops, you never know what you'll find.
