I dunno, self-titled just doesn't seem to do it for me to the same extent as dummy or third. The only song from it I'd say I really like is "Mourning air". Maybe I just need to give the album a couple more listens.

Also, that limited edition box looks awesome, I'm considering treating myself to it for christmas.

That is exactly what i'm thinking of doing.

I haven't listened to s/t for ages now.
might listen to it today.

Location: G7 for four bars, E7 for two, then F7 for about half an hour, North-east for about a hundred metres, turn right, go down the hallway and past the little old man, open the door, you will come outside to small bridge, cross twice, then coda to finish!
Dummy is one of my all-time favourite albums. i've got Third and the self-titled and they're both ok, but don't have the same spark for me.

Portishead is far and away one of the best trip-hop acts in the entire genre. When I was in London (England) a few years ago "Dummy" didn't leave my player the whole time; it's great urban "walking" music. I am incredibly excited about the new record; will be first in line to get it when it comes out.

You mean the new record that's been out for four months already?

Fans of "Glory Box" should check out "Hell is Round the Corner" off of Tricky's debut. A much better use of Isaac Hayes' "Ike's Rap II" imo

Big fan of Portishead but only in small doses. Those melancholic vocals and jazzy beats feel like trying to swim through treacle alot of the time. Far too sad in a real intense way

Dummy is the best album for sitting outside in the sun with a cool breeze chilling out with friends as evening comes on.

*happy memories*

Okay, apparently I totally dropped the ball on that one -- and I will obviously not be first in line then.

I've only heard glory box. it's a pretty good song. My band plays it. I really love soloing over that slightly 'twisted' descending chord progression

Portishead on Later with Jools Holland is just amazing.

I caught it on TV one day when they were playing this series of old Jools Holland sets.

Glory Box is brillant live.

Here's an interesting side-note for you...I never thought it would be possible for a band to do an accurate cover of a Portishead song, but I was proven wrong when my friend sent me a live cover of Glory Box done by none other than Faith No More. I thought it was really cool, personally (though the original is always better!)

Portishead eh? This might be way off target but is the song Idioteque by Radiohead any indication of what they sound like? just the term trip hop reminds me of that song for some reason.

I love Dummy, but are any of their other albums really worth my time? I haven't heard very many great things about anything except for Dummy.

Their second is good, but I'd get third first if you've already got dummy.

Loving magic doors right now. The drums sound like a led zeppelin drum track I can't quite put my finger on.
