He died in September 1970. Nirvana stole the idea from Killing Joke and New Order. However they (KJ) influenced were by dub which used it all the time. It is nothing new, bands like Hawkwind sound like they used a tuned down bass in the 1960's.

Which is the flat version of drop D. I think it's safe to recommend bands playing that in a thread asking about tuning down half a step. |

On "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", the Chili Peppers used that tuning some.

No, it's more than that. i don't know which ones, but I read a Guitar World interview with Flea. A handful of the songs use 1/2 step tuning. In fact, he said that he thinks "If You Have To Ask" is a whole step down. But, w/e...

Try playing songs that are usually standard as a half step down...some stuff sounds really good with that adjustment...plus its easier for vocalists if they are abit flat!

Alice In Chains, Stone Sour (in some songs), A.F.I., Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rise Against, Weezer, and Guns N' Roses are all I can think of as of now.
Also, in the dropped version of half-step down, a lot of bands play in this tuning. Just drop the low e-string as you would in dropped-D tuning (which I assume you're already familiar with). Here are some bands that play in dropped Db/C#. Smile Empty Soul (All songs) Chevelle (on songs off of Sci-Fi Crimes) Theory of a Deadman (some songs) Puddle of Mudd (most songs) Egypt Central (most songs) Nirvana (Some songs off of In Utero and in "Blew") Before Their Eyes (debut and some songs after that) Breaking Benjamin (used exclusively on their debut, and used somewhat in their future albums) Three Days Grace (Just Like You) Collective Soul (Shine) Deftones (on some songs) Evans Blue (used exclusively on their debut) Finch (used exclusively on their debut) Linkin Park (Hybrid Theory, excluding like 2 songs or so, and in Meteora) Rise Against (Midnight Hands) Scars on Broadway [Daron Malakian's side project, highly recommend checking it out] (used exclusively on their debut ) System of a Down (Hypnotize/Mesmerize) Seether (on some songs, mainly used in Karma and Effect, with some songs in future albums) Shinedown (in some songs) SR-71 (used exclusively in Tomorrow) 10 Years (the guitarists tune their guitars to an open Dsus tuning, which is obviously a half-step down, but one can play their songs in dropped-Db/C#) Hope this helps you some in your journey.
