Why the hell can't people grasp the concept of the circle pit?
I'm tryin' to get my jollies with my friends by running in a circle in an exaggerated manner and then some fat kids with bad haircuts and body odor decide to make it a mosh pit by throwing their wieght into the smallest kid they can find... Stop it!

Has anyone else every met another person who was stupid enough to believe that an obvious nickname was that person's real name?
I know a guy named Chris Cadaver and another named Justin Toxicated. People keep telling my friend Claire to marry Chris (they're dating) so that her initials will be CC. Whenever I tell people stories that involve Justin they tend to comment on how weird his last name is. Seriously, what the hell? By the by, who else would support a constitutional amendment making it legal to murder people who start hardcore dancing in circle pits?

*Raises hand* I'd like to marry a girl called Claire, because it's a sexy as f*ck name. EDIT: Either that, or I'd like to dress up as a woman and call myself Claire. |

Hmm, thinking at night. Problematic.
When I think too hard for too long, my brain starts to fall to pieces. I'm pretty scared of brains falling to pieces. I can physically feel my brain falling to pieces. I play too much RISK, which is really bad for my nerves. And when my nerves go my brain starts to break up And sometimes I feel compelled to make random sounds without realising I'm doing it. I'm fairly certain that I have developed some mild behavioural disorders over the years. Oh, and axe. Drugs don't kill people, Philosophers do. You need to let go of that sh*t. |

I'm going for a Masters degree in Philosophy. There's plenty of other things I could do, but I couldn't see myself living life unless I could study philosophy.

Dude, you're f--ked.
If philosophical concepts have ruined your self confidence to that extent, you're taking it FAR too seriously. I did philosophy for 3 years; it was the biggest load of hippy commie bull**** EVER. "The body is a vessel for the soul, a puppet that bends to the soul's tyranny. And lo, the body is not eternal for it must feed on the flesh of others lest it return to the dust from whence it came. Therefore - must the soul decieve, despise, and murder men." |

My self confidence really isn't so much the issue, but I'm more or less trying to find that state of equilibrium, that lofty point where I can say "this is what I want to be, this is where I want to reside."
I've often struggled with the question of multiple personalities. It almost always seems like one part of me is struggling over the other. When I let go, I get this horrible creature, this person driven by anger and hate. Is it just a personification of the mind I've created, or is it a darker part of me, a part I've suppressed for too long? When these problems arise, it's very difficult not to question them.

Hmm, at least it's not the worst case scenario.
I can't remember anything from those three years, so not only do I have no advice, but I don't have any philosophical views to support said advice. I think that all humans have multiple personalities interlocked into one. People with multiple personality syndrome have completely separate personalities, it's just one step further. College years are generally very difficult though, your mind grows more than any other time, and you spend a lot of time finding yourself. I'm OK now, but I had a terrible quarter life crisis last year. I've ironed that problem now, and I've managed to be able to define the role my personality plays in various situations. I have a set of independent morals and I'm much more stable. I realise now that by worrying, you only create problems. Human beings are extremely unrationable, unstable species. |

![]() "Course I'm scared. It's the Human Condition. Why do yous think I puts on this Tough Guy Persona?" Everytime I try to read about a philosophy on wikipedia my brain turns off and I absorb nothing... Philosophy takes all of the zazz out of life. Philosophy and Astrophysics will make you a suicidal madman with one hell of migrane if you take them too seriously in large doses...

I'm an existentialist. Supposedly the most hopeless and depressing form of Philosophy. And I love it.

What the hell did Hemingway have to be so hopeless about?
All dude did was drink and fish and hang out in fine places like Pamplona and Key West.

Well since this is a random thread I have something random to talk about. I know they aren't really punk per say but it still has something to do with punk and the scene. Now a lot of shows I go to are in Philly or Southern NJ. I've always known there's been FSU presence around that area but I didn't know how much there really was and how bad it was. They really do disgust me and I would never want to be at a show with them. They also scare me ****less. I mean they bring ****ing hammers into the pit. Luckily I've never seen them at a show probably because I don't listen to ****ty tough guy hardcore but still they have a presence in some of the scenes around me and sometimes there will be a hardcore band playing with a band I like. Now I don't listen to FSU type music but this still worries me and I don't think I'll be as comfortable next time I go to a show.

They're a sXe gang that ****s people up with little to no provocation. They've grown into quite a large group, and they basically stand for everything wrong with hardcore.
