Seems like they are stuck in the rut of working under the premise that aesthetic change creates progression, when really, it's just that, "change"; the same overall product delivered in a marginally different way, as opposed to any marked change in writing style or musical goal, resulting to an album which may seem different at first listen, but really isn't on a structural or artistic level, so it's more thinly veiled reiteration than anything else. This band isn't as good as I thought they used to be, really.
