Here's a really good video about image and music.

That'll scare em off.

Given that this is how I have taken to explaining my unfortunate choice of username to people, your attempt at scaring me off is in vain.

And no, lyrics are all over the damn place. I can't tell if you're talking about the same genre, screwing with me, or just can't honestly justify why you like Kitty Pryde without saying the obvious "because she's a teenage girl and I liek how slutty she sounds when she sings <3"

Well I guess you can think of it like this:

Like all music has some sort of appeal to somebody. What makes us attracted to certain music - at least at first - is mostly shallow, aesthetic things. That's not a bad thing, it's out of necessity -- it's tough to absorb the depth in any music on first listen. Image is usually the first thing we notice about any music (image is not just how someone looks, it includes things like the gender and racial makeup of the bands and lyrical themes (notice how Suis La Lune doesn't shout about farts and white supremacy, and if they did they would be thought of as a much different band)).

Most music is image-centric to some extent, modern emo and screamo is even more guilty of it than most, probably because it's made by and appeals to ex-scene kids who still have basically the same mentality, just slightly more sophisticated.

Anyway, hip-hop has always been hugely image-centric, so it's a weird criticism to launch at any rapper really. The only reason someone might throw that criticism around is if they don't like the rapper in question or think that their image and music is less authentic than others [via misogyny]. I like KP because I think girl raps can have just as many swags as boy raps.

She can't rap. It sounds like me if I tried to rap.

And that's not how rap works.

There's a huge difference between rapping and singing. As in, bad singing can sound rad, but bad rapping never does.

(I don't think she's a bad rapper, but regardless) I think bad rapping can sound kewl. I think that goes for every instrument.

I totally understood your point until you dropped this, I mean, yes, this is the case for some people, but I honestly don't think that as a whole this is true.

I like the knives and the cars and the swags but kitty pryde is good too

EDIT: I actually like Kitty Pryde cause I'm hella postmodern, and into irony cause I'm an awful hipster

I agree with that haha

Also, is it weird that Glocca Morra's 'Just Married' makes me want to jump around like a five year old who had too much sugar?

My friend is managing a new band from Philly. They just recorded an album and I think you guys might dig their music. They have a couple songs up on their bandcamp if anybody is interested in taking a listen. My friend asked me to show some people to see what they thought, so any feedback would be much appreciated.
